For the past three years, it has been my pleasure to spotlight rising stars – new actresses who are on the rise in the entertainment industry, breaking through on the small and/or big screen.

This time around I had the opportunity to interview our latest actress to be spotlighted: Victoria Park

Victoria was born and raised in Chicago. After studying film production at Northwestern University, she made a somewhat spontaneous decision to pack up her car, drive across the country, and make her home in Los Angeles.

Shortly after arriving, she found herself in an acting class, where she fell in love with the art and craft of acting and never looked back. Among the shows for which Victoria has guest-starred are 2 Broke Girls, Revenge, Grey’s Anatomy, The Middle and CSI: Cyber as well as playing Gaby Cho on the MTV short-lived, but acclaimed, series Sweet/Vicious.

She also appeared in the Amazon limited series Too Old to Die Young – from acclaimed director Nicolas Winding Refn – and the feature film Plus One, starring Pen15 alum Maya Erskine.

She joined the cast of the popular comic book-based series The Flash, airing on The CW, last season appearing as Kamilla Hwang, the love interest of Cisco Ramon aka Vibe aka best friend of Barry Allen.

Here is what Victoria had to share with us about her work on The Flash and more:

What do you like best about your character Kamilla Hwang on The Flash? Can you spoil anything that Kamilla will be doing in the last half of this season that fans will want to be on the look-out for?

There’s so much to love about Kamilla! One of Kamilla’s best traits is that she always looks out for her people, whether it’s being by Cisco’s side as he figures out life post-vibe or sticking with Iris as she investigates a potentially dangerous story. She is brave, intelligent with spunk. I don’t want to give too much away. You will see more of all of these qualities in the remainder of the season.

Can you talk a little about what the audition process was like for your role on The Flash?

The whole audition process flew by pretty quickly – one might say it went by in a FLASH. I went in for my first audition on a Friday, and an hour later was told I had a call back on Monday. Then by the end of the week, I was on a flight to Vancouver to film my first episode. It was an exhilarating blur. Going into the audition, I was told that my character could be a potential love interest for Cisco, but I had no idea how the role would develop and grow. It’s been so much fun taking Kamilla from “a potential love interest” to a fully fleshed-out character with dreams and aspirations and friendships and a career of her own. I can’t wait to see what other sides of Kamilla we have yet to explore!

Is there a dream project you would like to work on someday?

There are so many incredible Asian-American women throughout history, and it would be an honor to be able to tell their stories. Also, it’s in a different universe, but I would love to play Silk from the Marvel universe. Spiderman was one of my favorite superheroes growing up, so I was ecstatic when I found out they had created a Korean-American superhero with similar powers. It’s the only comic I own. She’s a complete badass.

What is one thing about yourself that your fans would be surprised to learn?

I can make absolutely anything into a jingle and do so. Frequently. (To the dismay – or is it a delight – of my husband.) If I weren’t an actress, I’m convinced I could make a decent living as a jingle writer.

Do you have any advice for inspiring actors?

Ask yourself if there’s anything else in the world you could or would rather do. If your answer is yes, then maybe do that. If your answer is no, jump in with your whole self and get ready to give your all. This industry can be a grind, but it can be so rewarding at the same time. Work hard, read/watch everything, take risks, stay humble, and be kind. I guess that advice really works for anyone, regardless of profession, but it’s definitely what I try to do each and every day.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love to sing, and I absolutely love being outdoors. My husband and I try to get out for a hike or go camping every month.

Do you support a charity or organization that you would like to promote?

Yes! I currently volunteer with Olive Crest (https://www.olivecrest.org/); it’s a non-profit dedicated to helping and transforming the lives of at-risk children in the child welfare system. I’ve also volunteered with World Vision (https://www.worldvision.org/) and Child Hope International (https://childhope.org/) in the past, and both are incredible organizations. I’d recommend checking any of them out and volunteering and/or donating if you feel led!

Victoria lives in Los Angeles and loves the great outdoors. She also loves her cats, denim and really bad puns. She is a self-proclaimed “foodie” and is very proud of her Korean-American heritage.

Here is to Victoria Park as a Rising Star!
