Interview: Charlotte Sullivan – Mr. Write
Not interested in the big game on Sunday? Take a break from grown men knocking each other over in pursuit of a ball and watch Mr. Write, a new original movie from UPtv premiering Sunday night at 7 PM.
Mr. Write follows book editor Dori Shephard (Charlotte Sullivan, Rookie Blue, Mary Kills People) when she meets her idol, romance novelist Michael Rothchild (Corey Sevier, Cedar Cove). It’s a “don’t meet your idols” encounter when she realizes that the man who writes so eloquently about romance doesn’t believe in true love himself. But when Dori’s own romance falls apart, it’s Michael who helps her renew her belief in love.
We had the opportunity to chat with star Charlotte Sullivan about Mr. Write and more – including TK. Read on!
Can you tell us a little about Mr. Write beyond the synopsis?
It’s basically like The Grinch only romantic.
What drew you to the role of Dori?
I had never done a romantic comedy before. I usually play sluts, cops or people who die from terminal illnesses.
Are there any funny behind the scenes stories from the filming of Mr. Write you can share with us?
I may have thrown up out of a window in a moving van but I might be confusing this with another movie.
Well, that leads right into my next question – you’ve had an interesting acting career that may include more than one project where you threw up out the window of a moving van! Do you want to write or direct?
I would love nothing more than to smoke cigarettes, speak through a megaphone, wear full piece suits and orchestrate my friends to do strange and beautiful things.
That’s a really specific vision for directing. Do you have a dream project that you want to work on?
I want to work with Matt Gordon. He’s my favorite actor.
Any advice you can give an aspiring actor?
Keep it simple and make it about the work. Stay curious, read, listen to music and let your instincts lead you down a research rabbit hole.
Can you share one thing about yourself that might surprise your fans?
I’m allergic to blue eyeliner. My eyeballs expand to a disproportionate size à la Rodney Dangerfield and my cheeks engorge like a pufferfish.
Do you have a charity that you support?
My best friend Franny works for UNICEF so I’ve been lucky enough to witness the extraordinary work that she’s done. I continue to support them each and every year but I’m ashamed to say that I don’t think I do enough and I’d like to change that.
Mr. Write debuts Sunday, February 2 at 7 PM on UPtv.
