A Million Little Things: Goodnight
There was a lot of emotion on A Million Little Things this week!
Here is a synopsis for season two, episode 8: Goodnight
An unexpected tragedy makes Rome rethink his relationship with his dad. Delilah’s plan to take the kids to Europe for a few months gets Katherine and Eddie pondering proving his paternity legally, and an opportunity to study in England threatens Maggie and Gary’s relationship.
Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts:
Cay:
There was a lot going on in this episode! I can’t believe they killed Rome’s mother so suddenly before she could go on that cruise – that made me tear up for sure. Why did this show need another death, even if it affects Rome and Regina mainly? On a related note, Rome’s brother sure is worthless.
Delilah sure seems to be trying to run away from her problems. The situation is so complicated, but I feel like that was predictable at the time that she first decided to sleep with her husband’s best friend! I think I like the new Katherine – she seems to be done feeling sorry for herself and I like how feisty she is all of a sudden. I think I’m with her vs Delilah on this point. I just can’t see a way where Eddie continues to have access to Charlie and the rest of the family and he and Katherine stay together and the secret doesn’t eventually get out. And when it does, the longer it takes, the bigger an effect it is likely to have on the kids, especially Sophie. I can see the scene now – her yelling at Delilah – “how could you have kept this from me and acted like nothing happened for so long?!?”.
Speaking of Delilah, it seems that one character’s parentage won’t be a secret for much longer. From her reaction to Regina, she knows that Barbara’s kid is also Jon’s kid. Add that to knowing that he sort of broke Sophie’s heart and that Rome and Regina brought him into the group’s lives without saying who he was and I predict some rough seas in the relationship between them and Delilah. As if Rome and Regina need something else right now.
Then there’s Maggie and Gary. How about that offhand comment that he lost his job?? What’s up with that (do we even know what he does?). Makes me wonder if he’ll volunteer to go with Maggie to England?
Rueben:
Yes, there was so much happening in this episode!!
I wasn’t expecting Rome’s mother’s passing at all, and it just seemed like it would compound Rome’s depression, but I was relieved to hear what he told Regina at the end of the episode, that he knew he’d get through this. His words at his mother’s funeral were moving, and I was happy for that brief moment between Rome and his dad. Hopefully their relationship will start to improve. I also couldn’t agree with you more that Rome’s brother is truly worthless, isn’t he?
Good grief this whole parentage secret, it’s almost too much. Neither of those secrets – PJ and Charlie – are going to be kept quiet for much longer, and speaking from someone who had to keep a secret very similar from a childhood friend, it’s VERY painful when the truth is revealed especially if a lot of years have passed. The longer you wait, the more hurt there is going to be. I think you are totally right, Cay, about what Sophie will say to her mother when the truth comes out.
Did you notice that it seems like Regina has inadvertently become the holder of all the secrets? PJ, Charlie and now Gary… By the way, Gary worked in insurance, but I don’t think they ever really went into detail about what he actually does/did at work. I don’t think keeping this secret from Maggie is going to help either. Gary needs to come clean with Maggie because we both know (don’t we?) that Maggie is gonna get that fellowship at Oxford because why else would they bring that into the storyline.
There is going to be a lot coming to head in next week’s episode, that’s for sure!
