THE GOOD PLACE Roundtable: A Girl From Arizona, Part 2

By  |

Join us while we discuss the final season of The Good Place – starting with “A Girl From Arizona, Part Two”

Eleanor, Michael, Janet and Tahani have their hands full when the new residents begin to show their true colors. Jason receives some unsettling news.

The Good Place

Roz: Chidi has such a great grasp of his professional work and it’s evident in that conversation with Simone about her behavior during the first few days in this neighborhood.

Oh and using that trick of utter chaos was amazing!

Cay:  I wondered how they were going to handle the whole Blake Bortles situation! Perfect! And the part about the woman saving all the ducks – too funny!

Christie: Eleanor’s growth is on full display in this episode and Kristen Bell does an amazing job with it. And Eleanor’s relationship with Michael has becomes such a tender one, and lovely. Ted Danson and Bell are so good together.

I also love that we learn why Jason was made a monk in the first iteration of the neighborhood.

The Bad Place

Roz Brent as a stand-in for someone like a certain Supreme Court Justice is awful to see (though I do know a bunch of guys like that from college so the stereotype isn’t wrong). Basically, Brent is gross.

Christie: I don’t like how everyone just turned on Eleanor. I know they’re all worried, but it’s too early to just throw Eleanor under the bus like that. She can’t do everything and as much as she’s changed as a person she’s still discovering herself as a leader.

Oh, and Brent. I hate Brent.

Cay: Brent. Obviously we are meant to hate him, but I *really* hate him and instead of wanting to see him reformed, I pretty much want to see him visit IHOP and not come back. But obviously that doesn’t help Team Cockroach. Also feeling pretty bad for Eleanor – the little attempted coup with no one else willing or able to step up in her place was not cool.

Also, those Princeton tiger-themed suits. So freaking awesome! Not only the call back to the first season, but the visuals!

The Mediocre Place

Roz: I get the emotional growth for Eleanor is necessary, but does it need to be without showering?

Christie:  Putting Eleanor in this position of having to tell Chidi that Simone is his soul mate sucks! Yeah, OK, it’s necessary. But it still sucks.

Also — I love Chidi summoning books from his apartment, but I hope they don’t overdo this gag.

Cay: Why is Eleanor not showering? And why does she look like she still is? This was unnecessary.

Final Thoughts & Quotes We Loved

Roz: Brent’s list of friends, especially Mexican William and White Guillermo. So great!

Christie: No quote really sticks out for me in this episode. Overall, the two-parter was kind of meh for me. Hopefully it gets better.

Cay: I don’t have the exact quote, but it was from Jason and was basically like “you mean we shouldn’t just immediately do whatever we want to do without thinking first? Why didn’t anyone ever tell me this?” and then Michael responding that many people, especially judges, did. Comic gold!

The Good Place airs Thursdays 9/8c on NBC

Christie Zizo is never far from a computer or her phone anyway, so she decided to put that addiction to use and became a journalist. Usually while she bangs away at a keyboard, she's got Turner Classic Movies, a British sitcom, or something Scifi/Fantasy on TV (Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, American Gods, and many, many others). Her new obsession is "A Discovery of Witches," and all the history and science that goes into this fantasy series.
