Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Annie Weisman
Annie grew up in a beach town north of San Diego and graduated from Williams College. As a playwright, she wrote the following plays in the earlys 2000’s: Be Aggressive, which went on to productions in Dallas, Chicago, Austin and other cities; Hold Please, which went on to be produced by the Working Theatre in New York; and A Totally Meaningful Ritual, which was commissioned by A.S.K. Theatre Projects in Los Angeles. She also wrote two teleplays for HBO.
She got her start in the entertainment industry as a story editor and writer on the 2004 series Dead Like Me; and then she wrote for the very short-lived medical drama Inconceivable in 2006. The following year she wrote an episode of Heartland and later worked as a writer on Samantha Who?, The Cleaner and Eastwick.
In 2010, she started working as a writer for Desperate Housewives where she ended up working as a co-producer. She followed that up with working as a writer and producer from 2012 to 2014 on Suburgatory; and then she worked as a writer and executive producer on About a Boy.
She worked on the streaming series The Path during 2016-2017; and then wrote an episode of the Freeform drama The Bold Type in 2018. That same year she was a consulting producer and writer on the comedy I Feel Bad.
Her current project is the upcoming FOX drama Almost Family, which is based on the Australian series Sisters where Annie will be the executive producer and writer. Almost Family will debut on FOX on October 2 at 9/8c.
Annie lives in Los Angeles where she is a member of the Dramatists Guild and is the mom of two.
