ONE CHICAGO Pre Season Questions
It has been a couple of months since we were in the ONE CHICAGO world and now that we’re two weeks out from the return of ONE CHICAGO Wednesdays, what better time to refresh where we left off on CHICAGO MED, CHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D.? Read on to find out where we left off on each show and the big questions we have for each show as we head into the season premieres…
1. Will Natalie and Will be okay?
Chicago Med‘s season four finale ended with Natalie reaching back out to Will, only for their potential reunion to be interrupted by Will’s car being intentionally T-Boned by a mob son with a grudge and Natalie being thrown from the car. While Will seemed to be in better shape than an unconscious and bleeding Natalie, we’ve watched enough episodes to know the dangers of undetected head trauma so we’re pretty cautious about the fate of the pair. If both end up being fine, then will Natalie and Will reunite or will she stay with Phillip, who unknown to her, was about to propose!
2. Will Maggie be okay?
Speaking of health in jeopardy, the season four finale also revealed that head charge nurse, Maggie may have metastatic breast cancer. The diagnosis has to be officially confirmed via tests, but Maggie did admit that it has been a while since her last mammogram.
3. How long will Dr Charles’ wedded bliss last?
At the end of season four, Dr Charles remarried his former wife Caroline, who was being treated for cancer but treatments weren’t going so well. The pair married in an intimate ceremony at the local tiki bar in lieu of their original plan of marrying in Hawaii since Caroline wasn’t able to make the trip. Being with Caroline is the happiest we’ve seen Dr Charles in a while, but what will happen as Caroline’s health deteriorates?
4. Are April and Ethan expecting?
Wow, there sure was a lot of doom and gloom in the season four finale, but it wasn’t all life threatening situations! April and Ethan reunited and seemed to be back on track. Then she revealed that she was late. Is a baby on the way? Can their newfound relationship handle it?
5. How will Connor leave?
Prior to the season four finale airing, it was announced that original cast member Colin Donnell (along with fellow cast member Norma Kuhling who plays Ava Bekker) would not be returning for season five. With no clear closure in what was deemed his final episode, fans were relieved to hear that Donnell will be back in the season five premiere to wrap up Connor’s storyline. Now the question is what will Dr Rhodes’ swan song entail? Will it be connected to the investigation of his father’s death? Will he take up the Mayo clinic job offer from last season’s premiere after all? Or will he simply just leave Chicago for a fresh start? It’s also interesting to note that both Connor and Ava still appear on the new art promoting the latest season…
1. Does everyone survive the mattress factory fire?
The end of season seven concluded with Chief Boden commanding Firehouse 51 to evacuate before the burning factory that they were in were about to blow. Pretty much everyone – both firefighters and paramedics – were still in the building before the screen went to black. Will everyone make it out alive when the show returns for season eight? Will there be any serious injuries or PTSD? We need answers!
2. What’s happening with Brett?
Assuming she makes it out of the factory fire unscathed, our next question for Fire is what is going to happen to Sylvie Brett? Prior to the fire, she reunited with the Chaplain and not only accepted his marriage proposal but also the question to move with him to his new job outside of Chicago? She won’t really leave will she? If it does look like she’s leaving, will Casey say anything about his newfound feelings for her or will he just let her go? They had a moment outside Molly’s during the finale, but Casey being the good guy that he is, has been putting her happiness before his.
3. Are Severide and Kidd in it for the long haul?
Midway through last season, Severide’s father unexpectedly passed away, which resulted in Severide spiralling a little and pushing Kidd away. In the season finale, they reunited when Severide declared that she deserves someone better than him and he’s determined to become that someone better and worthy of her love. After all the on and offs, is this time finally for real?
4. Will there be any more job movements?
Last season we saw Casey become a captain, Hermann become a Lieutenant and Ritter become the new 51 candidate. Will there be any more position movements at Firehouse 51 this season? The head of OFI told Severide he was a natural at arson investigation – is that something he will end up pursuing? Mouch has dabbled in the idea of retiring over the last couple of years; will it finally happen this season? Is Otis happy being on Truck? If Brett does leave, who will partner with Foster on Ambo 61? Kidd has filled in a couple of times – will she take up the mantle or will someone new come along?
1. Did Voight kill Mayor Kelton?
Season six ended with Halstead, Burgess and Atwater arriving at a crime scene, only to find that it was the home of newly appointed mayor Brian Kelton and he had been shot dead! In his new role, there was no doubt that one of Kelton’s first moves would be to disband Intelligence. We know Voight would do anything to protect his unit, so did he shoot Kelton? The camera panning to Voight driving into the night seems to suggest so or is it a deliberate red herring?
2. What happens to Antonio?
As with Med‘s Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling, prior to the season finale airing, it was announced that Jon Seda would not be a series regular on Chicago P.D. this upcoming season. As with Connor and Ava on Med, Antonio’s final appearance was a bit open ended but as far as we know, Seda did not return to wrap up his storyline in the season seven premiere. This begs the question of what will Antonio’s swan song involve? Did he kill Kelton? Did he OD on pills? Does he simply leave town weighed down by the guilt that Ruzek has been arrested and is taking the fall for something that he did? We need answers!
3. How long will Ruzek last in jail?
Last we saw of Ruzek, he was putting on a brave face as he was being lead away in handcuffs by the IAD for obstruction of justice. As we know, Ruzek has been covering for Antonio who killed a man in retaliation for hurting his daughter. Antonio was under the influence of pills at the time so Ruzek stepped up despite both Antonio and Voight’s protests. We were certain that Voight or even Platt were able to score a last Hail Mary as they tend to do, but it wasn’t the case this time. How long will Ruzek be in jail this season? Will he be okay in there? Intelligence doesn’t exactly have the greatest track record with prison time…
4. Will there be any promotions this season?
Ruzek, Burgess and Atwater have been officers since the show’s beginning. Surely it’s time for them to be promoted to Detective or even have discussions about taking the detective exam? We’re probably being a bit naive thinking all of them can be detectives and therefore creating a team of detectives on Intelligence, so we’ll settle for even just one of them being promoted. At the end of last season, Voight also told Halstead that he’d be leading Intelligence one day – will that day come sooner rather than later?
5. Will Upstead remain purely partners or become something more?
I am well aware that there are plenty of Upstead shippers out there and can’t deny that it was nice to see the partners become closer and open up to each other more last season. However, I would actually prefer Upton and Halstead to remain partners and good friends rather than them become love interests. We went down that road with Halstead and Lindsay, plus Upton has been seeing Ruzek so enough with the team romances already! Why do partners need to develop into something more? Why can’t they just remain good friends and partners? From the way they’ve set up the relationship between the two, it could go either way this season.
