The InBetween Roundtable: “Monsters and Angels”

By  |

The season finale of The InBetween aired on NBC on Wednesday night, and the synopsis of that episode is as follows:

Tom and Damien investigate the murder of a young schoolteacher, only to discover that her killer is someone very close to home. Cassie realizes that she must deal with Ed Roven once and for all.

STUPID

Rueben: I didn’t really find anything stupid about this episode. It was intense, gripping and emotional. I thought it was a really good finale.

Lisa: I agree Rueben. If I had to pick something, it would be that we don’t have more episodes! I want more! This season went by way too fast.

Leah: Me three! This was a fantastic episode from start to finish. The only stupid thing is if we don’t get a second season.

AWESOME

Rueben: Cassie going up against Waterman. As he’s choking her, she has enough frame of mind to grab the taser (thank God it was right there on her nightstand), tases the brute, then kicks him hard enough that he stumbles over and falls right out her window and down to his death on the sidewalk in front of her house. Holy fraking frak! That was something to behold. I have to agree with Brian and Tom when they agreed that maybe Cassie’s mom was there with her to help her. And what was even better was all of Roven’s victims and Millie ganging up on him to send him to hell (where he belonged)! Those were two really great scenes.

Lisa: Yessss! Isn’t if refreshing to see a strong female character fight back instead of a damsel in distress? Cassie kicked ass against Waterman. But the scene with all of Roven’s victims sending him to hell was powerful! Off to hell you go cottontail! Bye!!!

Leah: Ed sure proved to be a powerful big bad. I really liked how everything from the whole season filtered through to the end. I also really really like how great Asante fit in with the team and his friendship with Cassie.

SO SO

Rueben: I was freaked out by Cassie’s vision at the end of that other man (guest star Christopher Heyerdahl) in Brian’s reflection, but what the heck was that all about. Did some spirit possess his body for those few seconds that his heart stopped? And if so, why? Why Brian? And how did this creep know Cassie’s name? Just what in the world is up with that?

Lisa: I know! I love Chris Heyerdahl and as soon as I saw him I thought oh lord, what creepiness is about to ensue? He does creepy so well! I am definitely intrigued. As far as so-so scenes for me, I can’t really think of anything that was just so-so. This episode was jam packed from beginning to end. Well done!

Leah: The only so-so for me is Ed Roven’s accent…and maybe the speech to the universe in chapel before it got crazy good!

YOUR THOUGHTS

Rueben: I was very surprised that this was the season finale, as I didn’t realize that was the case until I started watching the episode; especially knowing that NBC hasn’t announced if the show is getting a 2nd season or not. That’s just so rough especially leaving us with that weird cliffhanger ending. I’m really pleased that Brian made it through the surgery albeit with that scare that he didn’t make it and that weird vision that Cassie had. I want to see Brian’s recovery and how that all plays out. And, I think it would be really interesting if the show gets a 2nd season that they introduce the spirit of her mother so that maybe Cassie can finally get some closure from that.

Lisa: I agree Rueben. I didn’t know if was the season finale until you told me! I didn’t know that while watching the episode so that definitely makes me think of a few things. What is going to happen with Chris Heyerdahl’s spirit or ghost? I am so glad that Brian made it through. My heart sank when Cassie saw his ghost briefly and I thought he died. It was very emotional. This was a great first season and I really hope NBC gives it another season. This show had a rough start with all of the interruptions from sports and politics. We need a season 2!!

Leah: I’m definitely going to need a second season! I appreciate a show that doesn’t cliff hanger but still leaves a new mystery. Great job overall.

That concludes The InBetween for the summer on NBC. The network has yet to announce if there will be a second season.
