BLOOD & TREASURE: Observations From “The Revenge of Farouk”

By  |

The season episode of Blood & Treasure aired on Tuesday night, focusing on:

In the Season 1 finale, secrets are exposed, fates are sealed, and Danny and Lexi’s lives will never be the same after Farouk’s master plan is put into action.

The Good
Rueben: Gosh there was a lot to love. Father Chuck telling Lexi and Danny what Dr. Castillo had discovered that led her to Reece’s door before her untimely death, leading them to know that it was definitely Reece behind it all. The four of them (Danny, Lexi, Father Chuck and Shaw) all working in tandem to sneak in the equipment they needed to foil Reece (even if that didn’t exactly turn out the way they hoped). Lexi saying, “he wouldn’t do it” when she aimed the gun at Reece’s fixer and Danny saying, “she would do it” before he leapt through that overhead window to get into the main part of the museum to stop Simon with Gwen and the police hot on his heels. I also loved the ending where Father Chuck and Lexi pointed their fingers at each, saying “I’m watching you” before leaving Danny and Lexi alone to hold hands and then kiss. I was pleased it was a clean ending with “The Adventure Will Continue” at the very very end rather than a cliffhanger. Oh, and how great was it to see Shaw jump in front of that bullet, and then realize that the medal he was presented saved his life. That was a priceless moment. Also, the reveal that Simon was the real Karim Farouk and the way he verbally berated his father – that was a great scene even if he was the bad guy all along. I was very pleased they were able to take Simon/Farouk down on the Seychelles without any incident.

Leah: I love a show that cleans up all of their loose ends. The finale was fantastic! We had everyone working together, which was great. All of the characters have come so far. Shaw was a fraud and an arms dealer when we met him and by this episode he was jumping in front of a bullet. I’m glad he didn’t die, I really like his character and I hope he’ll be back next season. Lexi and Danny started out as not even friends and that has evolved into the two of them making each other better people. Gwen was so by the book at the beginning that I wanted to scream – I did scream at the TV a few times – here she is in the finale working with everyone. Really a great all around mystery as well. Having Simon, who has been flitting in and out of the narrative, be the ultimate big bad was great. Also by the end, everyone that needed to be taken down was.

The Bad
Rueben: I can’t believe that I had not been more suspicious of Simon Hardwick until it was nearly too late! I know we both got focused on Reece being the ultimate culprit, and took it for granted that Farouk was who he “said” he was, but I’m admittedly upset with myself for not seeing past his veneer and pegging him as more than he was. I also felt bad for Father Chuck being treated the way he was at the museum by the real Farouk’s men. And, no offense, but I expected the fight between Lexi and the mystery woman (who turned out to be Reece’s fixer) would have been a bit more climatic. Sure they both can kick ass, but I figured it would be a lot more fisticuffs than it was. Other than that it was a really great finale.

Leah: I’m with Rueben. I discounted Simon Hardwick almost completely. I also agree I could have used a bigger/longer fight between Lexi and the fixer since that fixer got the better of so many people this season. I have to admit though those might be my ONLY issues with the finale. They did a great job.

Additional Thoughts
Rueben: I can’t wait to see what their next adventure is going to be. I hope that Shaw and Father Chuck will be involved too, and that Danny and Lexi will remain a couple. Perhaps they could be on a romantic holiday together and get caught up in some kind of crazy international intrigue. They have to find a really great criminal or villain to go after with lots of twists and turns just like this season to match up to this season, ya know what I mean?

Leah: The whole season was so good. Now that Gwen has loosened up and Shaw and Father Chuck are on the “team” I can’t wait to see what they do next season. There is a lot of treasure chasing that can be explored.
