Good Witch Recap: “The Treasure”

By  |

With only few episodes left in the fifth season of Good Witch on the Hallmark Channel, we’re getting down to the wire on how things will come to a conclusion for all of the characters.

This time around Mayor Martha Tinsdale had not only hired Natalie, a writer to come to Middleton to write the town’s history but also hired Cassie’s foster brother Vincent to find the long-missing town treasure (because he had experience finding a sunken ship in one of his previous jobs out t sea). This was all thanks to Martha’s discovery of the original town charter in a secret alcove in the archives of City Hall.

In couple’s news, Luke came clean with Grace about why he was really working at City Hall: his Aunt Dottie, Donovan’s mom had him working there to learn all he could about Abigail, who was serving as Mayor at the time; but Luke couldn’t be underhanded any longer because of his growing feelings for Grace. Dottie was concerned about Abigail’s relationship with Donovan and how the Merriwick curse could spell disaster for the potential future governor. In the end, though, after Luke came clean with Sam about his reasons for telling the truth (and sharing those details with Grace), Grace seemed to be warming up to the idea of forgiving Luke.

Speaking of Abigail and Donovan, Dottie met with Abigail for lunch, warning Abigail away from Donovan, using her father’s past discretions as proof that Abigail wasn’t the right person for Donovan. Except Abigail wouldn’t give up on Donovan; that is until Donovan was injured in a motorcycle accident, his first one in 15 years of riding his motorcycle. The fear that the Merriwick curse could really hurt Donovan led Abigail to breaking things off with him.

Elsewhere, Vincent was beginning to be drawn back to the sea, but he had his treasure hunt to complete before he sailed away. Ironically enough, he found kinship with the writer hired by Martha, who ended up joining him on the treasure hunt. The watermarks discovered on the charter during an emergency town council meeting called by Martha were the first of several clues that eventually led Natalie and Vincent to stained-glass windows at City Hall and then ultimately to the town’s popular wishing well. It was there that Natalie discovered a small chest hidden behind one of the stones; but that chest was filled with nothing but sand.

While Martha had hoped to have the treasure to present to the town during the Founder’s Day celebration that goal was not reached; but she learned an important lesson that she shared with all of the town: to appreciate the wonder all around them. In the end, it was Sam who figured out the real clue – the Latin words written on the charter – which translated to “the truth lies within.” He looked at the charter, determining that the scroll actually contained the truth: a key that was hidden inside. But what does that key open?
