The InBetween Roundtable: Pilot

By  |

The InBetween premiered on NBC this week and we gave it a watch. See what we had to say below.

In the premiere of the paranormal crime drama, Cassie helps her father, Det. Tom Hackett, and his partner, Damien Asante, solve a young woman’s murder using her unique psychic powers. She also encounters a supernatural spirit, Ed Roven, whose evil transcends time.

Join the NiceGirls staff as they discuss the episode using our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Lisa: Hmmm…can I change stupid to spooky for this one? Children ghosts always creep me out and this was no different. This pilot episode had just the right amount of creep factor for me.

Rueben: I just might have to agree with you there. Cassie’s visions of the kids was a bit spooky wasn’t it? Otherwise I didn’t really have any stupid moments stand out for me.

AWESOME

Lisa: I loved seeing Cassie deliver the message to the inmate who killed his granddaughter! She told him that she knew exactly what he did and every time he felt the breath being knocked out of him, that was his granddaughter! That was a kick ass scene!

Rueben: My thoughts exactly, Lisa. I thought that was a great scene, made even better by that little girl cartwheeling around all those inmates then pushing her murderous grandfather around.

SO SO

Lisa: I need to give this show more time, but at a first look I’m not sure how long the “ghost of the week” will hold my attention. I’m hoping to see more of an overall plotline with supporting ghosts. Definitely not a sentence I thought I would say. Lol We shall see how if goes.

Rueben: I have a feeling that Abigail and the Texas killer will be ongoing visits to Cassie interspersed with other ghostly visits each week based on whatever case Tom and the other detectives are investigating. Let’s hope that it doesn’t go the route of the “ghost of the week.”

YOUR THOUGHTS

Lisa: I think it was a pretty decent pilot. I love seeing Paul Blackthorne (A NiceGirls favorite) as Detective Tom. I look forward to seeing what this show has in store. I’m on board!

Rueben: I’m intrigued with Damien especially where this woman in the hospital is concerned. He is obviously in Seattle because of her, but why did he request to work with Tom? I felt that the pilot moved along well without being heavy handed with the ghost/visions. Each scene seemed to fit together. I’m interested enough to watch more. I had a friend say that this was just another Ghost Whisperer, but after watching the pilot I don’t think so. Sure Cassie sees ghosts but she doesn’t help them move on, and I find Cassie a bit more interesting.
