ONE CHICAGO Season Finales Round-up
The ONE CHICAGO world has wrapped up for another season, but not before leaving us with some mighty cliffhangers (including just how exactly are they writing off series regulars Jon Seda, Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling). There’s a lot to cover from the CHICAGO MED, CHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D finales, so we decided to turn our ONE CHICAGO finales recap into a fun little game. Ready to join us?
ONE REFERENCE TO THE HUNGER GAMES
Yes, you read that right. Shoutout to my fave line of the night by Foster on FIRE as she tells Brett in reference to Casey:“You’re as easy to read as The Hunger Games; just jump him already.”
ONE HECK OF A LOT OF FEELINGS LINGERING IN THE AIR
After weeks of vibes, we were certain the season would end with something happening between FIRE‘s Casey and Brett, especially given the amount of lingering looks the two kept giving each other throughout the first half of the episode. Casey was thisclose to asking Brett to be his date to a function, so boy did we feel blindsided by the episode’s end. Damn that innocent hug and Casey’s belief that Brett and the Chaplain are good selfless people who obviously should be together!
ONE ROMANTIC REUNION BETWEEN FIREFIGHTERS
After weeks of wondering whether Severide still had feelings for her, Kidd finally got her answer on this week’s FIRE. Concerned when he doesn’t show up to Molly’s, she tracks him down to his father’s cabin where he admits that “you deserve a better man than me so I’ve decided that I’m going to be the man that you deserve”, before they reunited in steamy fashion of course. Here’s hoping that these two crazy kids are now in it for the long haul!
ONE ENGAGEMENT RING
Love is definitely in the air in the ONE CHICAGO world! On MED, Manning’s boyfriend Phillip stuns Rhodes when he shares with him that he wants to propose to Manning and already has a ring. Wow that was fast! But before he’s about to propose, FBI agent Ingrid interrupts, wanting to speak to her about Dr Halstead. Poor Phillip. Also, what’s with Manning and proposals during season finales?
ONE PROPOSAL OF MARRIAGE AND MOVING
Unlike Phillip, over on FIRE Chaplain Kyle has better luck with his proposal to Brett. After receiving a job offer in Indianapolis, just 30 min away from Brett’s hometown, the Chaplain decides that he can’t leave Brett and shows up at Firehouse 51 to ask her to marry and move with him. She accepts as the rest of Firehouse 51, including a crushed Casey look on. The two have a quick moment afterwards where he congratulates her and she admits that his words to her the previous night made her realise that she should be with the Chaplain. Damn those noble intentions!
ONE WEDDING
Not only did we get a proposal in the ONE CHICAGO world this week, we also got an actual wedding with Dr Charles remarrying his first wife on MED. The plan was to go to Hawaii and get married there to make up for the fact that it didn’t happen when they first got married, but with Caroline’s condition she is unable to travel so Dr Charles had to get a bit creative. With some help, he brings the tropical vibes to them with a luau themed wedding.
ONE POTENTIAL PREGNANCY
Although they’re caught up in his sister’s dramas with her baby daddy, things have never been better between MED’s Ethan and April following their reunion last week. While at dinner with Emily, Bernie, his wife and teenage daughter (yeah, it’s a strange arrangement and we’re going to leave it at that), April reveals to Ethan that she’s late. Unless I am missing something, just how much time has passed since last week’s episode? Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it be too early to tell if April is pregnant and it’s definitely been way too long since they broke up before for the baby to have been a result from that time period. I’m confused!
ONE CANCER DIAGNOSIS
When Cindy, the woman that Maggie donated a kidney to on MED, is admitted to the hospital, a tumor is found on the kidney. However the tumor is a result of cancer spreading and is actually metastatic breast cancer. What’s more is that the tumor is not from Cindy but comes from the donated kidney. When Goodwin breaks the news to Maggie, she admits that it has been a while since she has had a mammogram. Between this and the drama with her sister last week, poor Maggie can’t catch a break!
ONE SOLID PARTNERSHIP
It’s almost voting day on P.D. and with Kelton a clear shoe-in for mayor, Intelligence are bracing themselves for the fact that Kelton has it in for them and once he becomes mayor will most likely disband Intelligence. In light of this, Halstead tells partner Upton that wherever she ends up, he’ll follow. She seems surprised and touched by this and he tells her that it’s hard to find a good partner. Later they’re shot at during a sting and Halstead covers her to protect her. Both are fine thankfully. Afterwards the pair share a moment in the break room where Halstead admits that they lost but he’s not ready to give up the unit or ‘us’. Upton tells him that they’ve only been partners a couple of years and that he’ll forget about her just fine. He opens his mouth to protest but struggles to come out with the words he wants to say.
ONE FOLLOWING IN THEIR FATHER’S FOOTSTEPS
On FIRE, Severide cracks the arsonist case that he’s been chasing the last few weeks. As revealed last week, the culprit was someone his dad had suspected and tried to investigate. Once the woman is arrested, the head of OFI tells Severide that he’s a natural at these investigations and that he shouldn’t rule out following in his father’s footsteps just yet.
ONE SUSPICIOUS DEATH
Speaking of a father’s legacy, over on MED, Dr Nina Shore (aka Colin Donnell’s real life spouse Patty Murin) is performing the autopsy on Dr Rhodes’ dad and discovers that he overdosed on insulin. Guess what? Connor’s dad was not a diabetic. This isn’t suspicious at all. Nor is Dr Bekker when she later tells Rhodes that they are now free to be together now that his father isn’t around. Thankfully, Rhodes has more sense than she does and tells her they’re never getting back together. Her demeanour immediately changes and she calls him an “ungrateful prick” and tells him to rott in hell. Like I said, that’s not suspicious at all…
ONE INTENTIONAL T-BONE
Elsewhere on MED, the son of the mobster that Dr Halstead was involved with earlier this season is now out of jail and FBI agent Ingrid is pretty concerned, warning the doc that he should leave town for his own safety. He tells her that he’s staying and not running. The FBI agent isn’t dumb and realizes he’s staying because of Dr Manning and gives the lady doc a heads up about the situation and also tells her that Will is one of a kind and really loves her.(This is right before Phillip was going to propose to Manning by the way). Manning races off to find Will and finds him in his car in the carpark. She jumps into his car and starts to apologize and possibly admit she still loves him but we don’t know because mobster son T-bones Will’s car and because Nat was just sitting in the car with the door still open, she goes flying out of the car. Will is momentarily knocked out and when he comes to, he rushes over to Nat lying bloodied on the ground. It doesn’t look good, guys…
ONE ENTIRE FIREHOUSE’S LIVES IN DANGER
Dr Manning’s life isn’t the only one in danger by the end of the ONE CHICAGO season. Over on FIRE, Firehouse 51 are tending to a factory fire and the broiler is about to blow, yet no one is listening to Boden’s commands to evacuate because there are still civilians trapped inside and no one wants to leave any one behind, especially their own. The screen goes to black as it blows, so we have no idea who is going to survive. EVERYONE from 51 was in the building at the time – even paramedics Brett and Foster. It’s going to be a long summer to find out if the show is going to pull another ‘yay, everyone makes it out alive’ or if it will be a case of the season opening and finding out that they did indeed lose one of their own, ala Shay in the season 3 premiere. Only time will tell!
ONE STEP AHEAD OF INTELLIGENCE
Now that Kelton threw her under the bus and ruined her career, Kate Brennan has no qualms about helping Voight bring down Kelton on P.D.. She gives him the name of a gangbanger that Kelton has under his thumb and Intelligence start looking into the gang leader in the hopes of bringing Kelton down. Unfortunately, Kelton is one step ahead of them and knows what they are trying to do. He even orchestrates the murder of the gangbanger. It doesn’t bode well for the future of Intelligence.
ONE INVESTIGATION THAT WON’T GO AWAY
On P.D., the investigation involving the case where Ruzek took the rap for Dawson is really not going to go away. Voight, Ruzek and Dawson are trying to formulate a way out of the mess with Platt’s help but there doesn’t seem to be a solution, especially when everyone is trying to play martyr. Dawson thinks it’s his mess and that he should come forward. Ruzek thinks he can handle whatever gets thrown at him and will not throw anyone under the bus because it goes against his code. Voight thinks he should take the fall since he is the leader of Intelligence. When there doesn’t seem to be a way out, he tells Ruzek that “You’re no Al. This is not happening.” In the space of two minutes, he gets into heated discussions with Ruzek and Halstead and both conversations involve Voight pushing them – dude, keep your temper in check!
ONE FUTURE PROMOTION
During their tense encounter, Voight tells Halstead that Intelligence will be his unit one day and that when it is, do it the right way. Could that day be sooner rather than later? With Olinsky gone and Antonio out the door, that makes Halstead the most senior member of Intelligence after Voight. Wow, we’re just realising that now!
ONE ARREST
In the end Ruzek is sticking to his story on P.D. and ends up being arrested for obstruction of justice. Yep, Intelligence is such a mess by the end of this finale. IAD wanted to come up into the bullpen to take Ruzek away but a protective Platt stopped it front happening and instead escorts Ruzek down to them. Before he gets taken away in cuffs, Ruzek kisses a teary Platt on the cheek and puts on a brave face.
ONE RELAPSE
We know that Jon Seda will not be returning to P.D. next season so we were bracing ourselves for something bad to happen to Antonio this episode and yet his last appearance was a bit unclear. He is sitting in his car, popping a pill – is this how he’s going to be written out? Will Antonio O.D? After seven years in the ONE CHICAGO world, Antonio (and Jon Seda) deserve better than this!
ONE UNCERTAIN DEPARTURE (OR TWO)
Also previously announced not returning next season were MED series regulars Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling, aka Dr Rhodes and Dr Bekker. If we thought Antonio’s last appearance was a bit up in the air, that was nothing compared to the last appearance of these two docs. They had an argument and that was it. Sure we can come up with theories, but there was no clear indication of how they were being written out. In fact, had we not known the news of the two actors not returning next season, we would not have guessed that this is their final episode. We seriously doubt we’re going to get closure for these two, but we would like to be proven wrong. Especially for Rhodes, who is an original character!
ONE MURDER
The ONE CHICAGO world ended its season with a murder. P.D. closed with Halstead, Atwater and Burgess arriving at a crime scene. The crime scene turns out to be Kelton’s home and he has been shot dead! We then see Voight driving in the night looking all serious. We know what the show wants us to think, especially after his whole “I’m going to do what needs to be done” comment to Halstead earlier, but while it would make sense that Voight is responsible we’re not going to be so easily duped. Brennan had just enough reason to shoot Kelton. Antonio could have done it – sure he’s all morally righteous but pills mess with him and it could be a way to write him out…
