When Calls the Heart Recap: “Hope Is With the Heart”

By  |

Sunday night’s new episode of When Calls the Heart centered on:

Trying to stay on Elizabeth’s good side, Lucas sets up a library for the town; Abigail is reunited with an old flame; Allie tricks Harper, Robert and Opal into believing the town has a haunted house; Bill conducts his first trial as a judge.

Love Endures

As the episode opened, Elizabeth was once again writing in her journal this time contemplating how love endures in Hope Valley. Her love for Jack Jr., the enduring love between Rosemary and her husband Lee, the love blossoming between town doctor Carson and his nurse Faith as well as the love shared between newly engaged couple Jesse and Clara. She also wrote about the hope of what tomorrow may bring. At the end of the episode, though, it appeared that one relationship – that between Faith and Carson – might be tested at Faith took a trip to Hamilton to be with her father who suffered a heart attack, and it looked like she might be staying for quite a while during her convalescence.

Court Is In Session

But in other parts of town, Jesse had a plan of his own: to get what he felt was due him by Henry Gowen, the man who bought his land and then struck oil. Naturally Jesse felt that Henry had swindled him out of his land; and a decision would have to be made in the court of law by newly appointed judge Bill Avery. Despite his hopes, Jesse simply didn’t have enough proof of any culpability on Henry’s part with Bill having to dismiss the case.

Changing With the Times

As we’ve seen, Rosemary is quite the seamstress – with a lot of help from Clara – but when asked by new resident Fiona, the head telephone operator in town, to style a new skirt based on the latest fashion of the day – a much shorter hemline – Rosemary was up for the challenge, but were the ladies of Hope Valley ready to move with the time? It certainly seemed that way by the end, and perhaps Elizabeth will be joining the ranks of the few women in town who will be sporting shorter hemlines in the near future.

What Is Lucas Up To

Also on tap for this episode was the surprise donation made by saloon owner Lucas Bouchard to Elizabeth: a building that could be converted into the town library. While it was unexpected that Lucas would make such a donation – it would seem that Elizabeth had the impression that perhaps Lucas was doing the good deed because of newly developed feelings for her, but he claimed it was because of her innate goodness that he felt compelled to something good too. However, given that he has been hiding something since his arrival, and the risky investment he made in Henry’s petroleum exploration – which luckily for both men – paid off, just what is Lucas up to?

Ghost Stories and Injuries

Meanwhile, the children were helping Lucas and Elizabeth get the library in shape to be used by everyone in town, but a few of them got a little too invested in the scary story of ‘The Fall of the House of Usher.’ And, new student Allie, Mountie Nathan Grant’s niece, didn’t help matters by tricking a few of the kids into visiting a long abandoned cabin in the woods on the pretense that it was haunted. This caused little Opal to get hurt, and for Allie to get in a bit of trouble with her uncle and Elizabeth.

Rosemary Reveals the Truth

In what has become a long-pondered about issue, Rosemary finally admitted not only to her husband Lee but also her best friend Elizabeth that she doesn’t think she can have children; and while Rosemary believed she was disappointing her husband, he prevailed upon her that she was exactly what he wanted and needed most in his life; and Elizabeth did her best to reassure her best friend that perhaps all hope wasn’t lost. In a nice sentiment to her love for her neighbors and best friends, Elizabeth asked Rosemary and Lee to be little Jack’s guardians.

Were you happy that Rosemary finally came clean? What are your thoughts on Allie? What do you think Lucas is really up to? Are you warming up to the new Mountie? How do you see things progressing between Jesse and Henry? Do you think Faith will return to Hope Valley at some point? Please share your thoughts on this episode below.
