Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Thoughts on Part 2 [Roundtable]

By  |

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina arrived on Netflix, and it was just as wild and wicked as part 1. When we left off, Sabrina had signed the Dark Lord’s book in order to save her family and Greendale. She had also made a kind of friendship with Prudence Night, and there definitely seemed to be some Chemistry between her and Nick Scratch. Now we have to see what Sabrina’s decision means, and who she is now.

Roz and I are talking about the good, bad, and the OMG about Sabrina’s return.

The Good:

Roz: Theo! I love a good story about supporting characters and I want to give all the love for Theo’s arc. It takes courage to want to transition and to have it not be as horrifying as it could be was wonderful to watch.

Cara: Theo is an amazing character, and I loved how his transition was received by his friends. I also liked seeing Sabrina and Nick in love, even if it was over the top and a little overly dramatic. It’s teenage love, right? Amidst all the power struggles and misogyny, it was nice to see some happiness.

The Bad:

Roz: Ms Wardwell is a wonderful anti-hero, but her sort of evil got to me as the season went along and we realized that her work with Satan was really a bigger issue than we all knew at the start. She’s such a strong force for Sabrina’s growth, even if it goes into a place we didn’t expect.

Cara: I was not a fan of Harvey’s heroic artwork. I appreciated the show trying to incorporate the non magic characters and give them a role in saving the world, but it was honestly just a little too ridiculous for me. I also got tired of Prudence’s wavering. Sure, she wants power, but her actions made her appear weak and clueless to what was going on around her. Prudence is WAY more bad ass than what we saw in Part 2.

The OMG:

Roz: Father Blackwell is the absolute worst! I want to punch his face so often with how much of a misogynistic ass he is. There are only so many polite things I can say about him and what he did to Sabrina and Hilda this half season. But that might pale to what we saw in Lucifer Morningstar, and his plan for Sabrina!

Cara: Yep, Father Blackwell is. the. worst. I have to admit though, it was pretty entertaining to watch Zelda act all Valley of the Dolls. Is that wrong? Maybe. I also kind of enjoyed bizarro Sabrina. It was so strange and disturbing. I loved it.

Final Thoughts:

Cara: I am ready for parts 3 and 4. I don’t want to drop any major spoilers, but I am ready to see what Lilith is getting up to, and just how Sabrina is going get what she wants.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been renewed for season 3 and 4 with an order of 16 new episodes, which should be filming soon. Perhaps our favorite witch will return by the end of the year.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
