WHISKEY CAVALIER Roundtable: Five Spies and a Baby

By  |

This week on Whiskey Cavalier:

The team must return a kidnapped baby to its parents while also taking down the human trafficking network that led to his capture.

Join us as we use our new ratings system known as SASSY – S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(Your Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: Who doesn’t check a teddy bear for a tracker? You’re all spies, don’t take that at face value!

Rueben: Who goes out for a run during a mission when you’re hiding out in the woods from mercenaries who kidnap children? I was a little put off by that one.

Cay: Rueben – that was exactly what I thought when she went off running – clearly she never has learned to use the buddy system!

AWESOME

Roz: Right sequence with awesome music made me smile like a loon. I mean, I love a good fight sequence, but that one at the end in the orphanage/place where the kids were corralled was great. Finding out that the CIA op is Scott Foley’s wife made it even better.

Rueben: Love the action sequence of Tina going after Will and Frankie at the police station. I actually enjoyed the talk between Ray and Emma; the first (and probably only) time I’ll like Ray. And Jai actually stepping up and caring about the little baby. I also liked the fact that Frankie has seemingly become more playful and fun since the team got together, but I admit to missing the stern, no emotions Frankie.

Cay: I love how the show uses music from the country the team is supposedly in. And I think it’s awesome that the show films in Europe (the main sets are in Prague) rather than pretending that Vancouver (or anywhere else in North America) is Europe! Also, Scott Foley is adorable with babies!

SO-SO

Roz: Much as I want to like Emma as a good woman for Will, she is moving way too quickly for my taste. Jesus!

Rueben: Why would Emma give Will an expensive, engraved watch after only being together for 6 days? I get it that she doesn’t take anything for granted – given the kind of job she has – but isn’t it a little too soon for that kind of gift?

Cay: Emma’s only purpose seems to be to slow down any potential relationship between Will and Frankie. My first thought when the episode started and they were acting like they’ve been dating for months was “how long has it been in time since last episode”. Then we found out it has been days…Will’s a hopeless romantic, but this seems ridiculous.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz: This show makes me want to go back to Europe in the best/worst way.

Rueben: I love that we get to see so many amazing European locations, and each case is very different each week. I like they it’s not a “bomb of the week storyline’ *cough* like Blindspot *cough*. I hope that we get to see more of Emma and maybe start to learn a little more about each character’s backstory.

Cay: Agreed with both Roz and Reuben – I loved Prague and the scenery they show is awesome – love the drone or helicopter footage of the team on the road, driving through gorgeous places – it sets the show apart a bit. Frankie is melting quicker than I expected she would – makes me wonder how they will keep up the “odd couple”  dynamic between her and Will – that was the gimmick that makes the show different from other ensemble case-of-the-week shows.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
