THE ROOKIE Roundtable: Manhunt

By  |

The Rookie was back with a new episode this week, focusing on:

When a prison bus crashes, some inmates face severe injuries while others seek an opportunity to flee; in the wake of the accident, officer Nolan tries to impress an FBI hostage negotiator while tracking down an escaped convict.

Let’s dig into the episode with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: That one prisoner who wanted to get into West’s mind about the ways in which his dad might have been as a younger man. I do want to know more about West’s dad, but in the context of a manhunt/prisoner escape it was a bit too much.

Leah: I can not stand the West character. I don’t need to see him in any episode…..

Rueben: Yeah, I have a feeling that West will look into that prisoner’s file to determine just what his dad did or didn’t do; but I also don’t really care.

AWESOME

Roz: It was a good look at a whole team effort from the entire precinct to get these prisoners back into custody. Also Sarah Shahi! Let’s have more of her.

Leah: Again with the amazing guest stars! I love Sarah Shahi. Also, I am always in for a prison break/manhunt. Love that storyline.

Rueben: It was Sean Maher for me; okay I loved that Sarah was in the episode too. I agree that the show gets GREAT guest stars. We won’t see Sean again (I’m sure – thank you for that Firefly connection!!); but I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see Sarah’s character Jessica especially given the fact she gave Nolan her phone number. I liked their chemistry throughout the episode too. The other thing I really liked was that the father who was carting one of the convicts around in his car because he was holding a gun on that man’s daughter, well, it was so great to see how Nolan helped that man trick the convict by having him end up in the garage at the precinct. Very slick trick if a bit of a TV trope! I was also moved by Nolan’s efforts to pass along that message from the prison guard who died.

SO SO

Roz: The way in which the prisoners acted out once they were outside of the original parameter got to be too cartoony; I could have done without the dad who has his kid in the trunk.

Leah: Yes Roz…..yes.

Rueben: I though the prank on the rookies was a little needless. It might be that I don’t like (or approve) of pranks because they are just senseless and rude.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz: Let me just say more about Sarah Shahi and how much I’ve missed her on my TV in a show I’m watching. Life was gone too soon.

Leah: I haven’t thought about Life in ages. I definitely miss Sarah on TV. Glad The Rookie is continuing with mostly strong episodes.

Rueben: I’m so pleased that Sarah is back on the small screen again. I enjoyed her in Life too, but also Fairly Legal. I have to admit being interested in seeing how Bradford does on the Sergeant’s exam too.
