DEADLY CLASS Roundtable: “Snake Pit”
DEADLY CLASS aired episode three last night and there’s nothing like a school dance to add a bit of extra drama (and some catchy tunes). Read on to see what the Nice Girls thought about DEADLY CLASS‘ latest episode, ‘Snake Pit’…
The Good
Ange: Classism, a classic theme but this episode handled it well and had me entertained from the prank war between the Rats and Legacies (although I could have done without the rat stew) to the teachers at Kings Dominion feeling strongly about it that it causes conflict amongst them. It was also nice to see Marcus starting to find his place more and establishing himself in the Rats friendship group. I’m also a sucker for a good high school dance episode so I was pretty much sold on this episode.
Leah: Loved the dance. The 80’s weren’t my favorite decade, but I am all for school dance scenes and this one didn’t disappoint. The rats crashing and getting the elites back was great!
Roz: Classism when it gives me a quote from Apocalypse Now (from T.S Eliot) is always a good episode of high school dramas. I also want more of Marcos with Prof Denke, because they have a surprisingly solid relationship for all the fish out of water Marcos feels.
Also French Steward as the psychopathy professor is a great twist. He feeds into Marcos’ continued issues of everything wrong with Kings. So does Master Zane (Christopher Heyerdahl) for that matter.
The Bad
Ange: Chico is still a terrible human being (but I did love seeing Saya giving him a piece of her mind at the dance), and just when I thought maybe Viktor was less douchey, it turns out he was playing poor Petra! NOT COOL.
Leah: I actually believed that Viktor wasn’t a complete ass…I was wrong. The legacies are a little bit much for me in general. I don’t see them toning it down at all in the future, but I wouldn’t be mad if they did.
Roz: Chico is always bad, but I’m really sad to see Prof Denke go in that fight because he was maybe the only adult who could get through to Marcos and all of his issues. Marcos now has so few allies who want to protect him and know how to do it without risking the rest of the rats. Willie as one friend to him in good, but that can only take him so far – as we saw.
The Music
Ange: Nothing like a school dance to bring out some cheesy ’80s songs! I picked up on The Go-Go’s ‘Our Lips are Sealed’ and ‘Lady in Red’ by Chris De Burgh.
Roz: When Billy and Lex went on their first revenge of the legacies as TSOL’s Superficial Love played was genius – at least for the last line.
