THE ROOKIE Roundtable: The Ride Along

By  |

Nolan has to tackle the dreaded celebrity Ride Along on this week’sThe Rookie, while Chen has to deal with Bradford’s emotional turmoil.

Let’s dig into the last two episodes with our new feature: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: I don’t get Bradford and his wife! That relationship is so unhealthy and they both know it, but still feed into each other’s destructive behaviors. He should know better than to have attempted to remove that kilo and she should have never asked him to do it.

Rueben: Where should I start? First there was that dumb kid who was shocking himself as an adrenaline high. Then there was Bradford taking the drugs out of his wife’s apartment (even if he did put it back); everything he did regarding her was just so predictable. He isn’t helping his wife!! And don’t get me started on Rupert Payne trying to throw money at any problem to fix things.

Leah: I’m going to focus my stupid on Bradford. What the ever loving…. This is clearly easier said than done, and it makes for TV drama, but this crap with his wife has to stop. His decision making is ridiculous and is going to end up costing him a job we know he loves.

THE ROOKIE – “The Ride Along” – Sergeant Grey informs Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop that they are going to have a movie director as a ride-along during their patrol after a fun afternoon granting the wish of a Make-A-Wish kid as honorary police officer Kaydence Patton. Meanwhile, Officer Bradford is tested once again after he learns that his wife, Isabel, has been arrested for drug possession, on “The Rookie,” TUESDAY, DEC. 4 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network. (ABC/Richard Cartwright)
MIRCEA MONROE, ERIC WINTER

AWESOME

Roz: Nolan’s kid was so sweet, as was that Make-a-Wish participant at the top of the show. Small moments, but good moments.

Rueben: It was so very brief, but it was so great to finally see Nolan’s son. I enjoyed their conversation; and hope that maybe we’ll get more of that father-son dynamic in episodes to come. Oh, and Nolan taking down that guy at the Hollywood party who attempted to drug that girl’s drink.

Leah: Nolan’s family! Last week we got to see his wealthy college friend and now we get to see his son. That was nice.

SO SO

Roz: Why use an Ashmore in such a small role? I wanted more for him.

Rueben: Why did they introduce that old-time starlet – Colette Crawford – and give it so little screen time. It would have been great if they would have delved into that a bit more.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz: All the guest stars make me smile, but sometimes the day-to-day of the procedure is muddled.

Rueben: I’ve said this before but I love their guest stars. We got to see Currie Graham again as Nolan’s house benefactor and, brief though it was, Shawn Ashmore was Bradford’s wife’s attorney. I’d like to see Shawn again more so than Bradford’s wife. And, as I said before, I’d like to see more of Nolan’s son.

Leah: I’m going to jump on Rueben’s wagon – the guest starts are great. Actors I love keep being brought in and it makes me so happy.

The winter finaleof The Rookie will air on Tuesday, December 11 at 10/9c on ABC.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
