THE GOOD PLACE Roundtable: The Worst Possible Use of Free Will

This week on The Good Place, Michael shows Eleanor some of her life in the Good Place in order to prove that she’s capable of love. Let’s talk about what we thought was stupid, awesome, and just so-so.

Stupid:

Roz: Why is it always bad jokes about porn? It can be funny, but the show isn’t about sex (mostly) so to go from PG to whatever it is we’re thinking of a porn shoot is a bridge too far.

Cara:  The porn joke just didn’t do it for me.

Cay: I laughed the first time around at the porn joke, but then they kept repeating it.

Leah: This season has not been stellar for me. The porn joke was just one more step in the wrong direction.

Awesome:

Roz: Eleanor’s character development, as she figures out that she wants to love someone – and wants to know how she did that so that it can happen again.

Cay: It was a clever mechanism to spend more time in the neighborhood. I got a kick out of the select a pet segment – why did Eleanor go with an iguana? And the Tahani centaur was hilarious!

Cara: I was so excited to be back in the Good Place. The show has so much more room to move there, and it was so heart-warming to see Eleanor and Chidi falling in love. I imagine it’s a story that we aren’t finished with yet.

Leah: THE GOOD PLACE! I was so happy to visit the neighborhood again. Chidi and Eleanor are the little relationship that could.

So-So:

Roz: I’m a bit sad we didn’t have more Jason doing Jason things in the flashbacks.

Cay: The rationale for the “flashbacks” was a bit weak, I thought, but the actual flashbacks were awesome!

Cara: I felt like Michael was back on his game this week, and while he didn’t astound, it was good to see the writing for him be a little more consistent than in some of the recent episodes.

Leah: I’d like to just say “See above” for Rox, Cay and Cara’s comments.

Roz: The penguin dressed as Blake Bortles was priceless.

Cara: Jason’s pet penguin!

Cay:  Yes! And the fact that he seems to think that penguins are mystical?!? too funny! Also loved the super self-centered Tahani-on-steroids centaur,

Leah: Penguins are always my favorite.
