CHARMED: Stars discuss the new show

By  |

Twelve years after the original beloved show finished its run, Charmed is back this fall on The CW with an all-new set of sisters and a modern vibe. The cast and executive producers were on hand for San Diego Comic Con for both a panel and a pressroom and we got the scoop (and watched the pilot!).

As in the original, the reboot revolves around three sisters – Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), and Macy (Madeline Mantock)- who find out that their world is a little bit more complicated than they ever expected. The show, which shoots in Vancouver, was described in the panel as being “soap + magic + real horror” and the pilot indeed had a bit of all, as the sisters work through a personal tragedy and learning about their newfound powers. Rupert Evert plays their mentor/guide, Harry, who may be more than what he seems. The show will be current with regards to current events with more than a little feminism thrown in.

We sat down with the show’s stars, Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, and Madeleine Mantock in the press room to discuss the show. (Apologies – there was a ton of background noise!) Some highlights:

  • They were attracted to their characters because of their intelligence and because of the relationships between the women and the ability to address current events.
  • They’d like to see cameos or other nods to the original show
  • They love that they get to be the heroes and HAVE POWERS!
  • Speaking of powers, they are still trying to figure out what expressions and body language they should use with their powers
  • They are excited to work with showrunner Jennie Urman (see our interview with her here)

Be sure to watch Charmed on Sundays at 9/8c on The CW starting on October 14th!
