The Hodge Podge of Fall: Doctor Who and Emma Approved
October is turning out to be a REALLY cool month so far and we are only 9 days into the month!
First of all, over the weekend the world was introduced to the 13th Doctor – via a global simulcast – when Doctor Who aired its 11th season premiere, featuring the FIRST EVER female Doctor as portrayed by accomplished British actress Jodie Whittaker.
In her own words, it was “brilliant!” And 8.2 million viewers seem to agree, as that is the overnight rating in the UK; and you can be assured that number will rise considerably.

What’s even better is that, BBC Studios and Mattel has partnered to release the first ever Doctor Who Limited Edition Barbie doll; and, as of yesterday, the Barbie doll version of Whittaker’s Doctor [which is meant for adult collectors, not kids – I might add] is available for purchase.
Here is the official press release:
“Exploring the universe, the Doctor Who Barbie wears a rainbow-striped t-shirt, paired with cropped trousers and a trench coat. Additional, true-to-character details include Doctor Who signature suspenders and lace-up boots. With sonic screwdriver in hand, this collectable Barbie doll is fully posable and sculpted to the likeness of her onscreen character.”

The doll can be ordered at Hot Topic for $50.00. Dolls will ship out in December. It should be noted that at least 1,050 dolls have already been sold. [This doll is definitely going on my wish list for Christmas. What say you?]
The other event for which I am excited about this month is the return – after a five year absence – of Emma Approved, the multi-platform web series that debuted back in October of 2013. Much like its counterpart at the time – The Lizzie Bennet Diaries – Emma Approved is a reimagining of the Jane Austen classic story of Emma. This version focused on the title character, who is a lifestyle coach and matchmaker, filming herself for the future documentary about her life.
The series – which aired on Pemberley Digital’s YouTube channel – starred Joanna Sotomura and Brent Bailey as the title character and Alex Knightley (respectively).
This time around, Emma Approved is working with Patreon, allowing shareholders to help with the production of their next new documentary. There are four levels of support: Bronze Shareholder, Silver Shareholder, Gold Shareholder and Diamond Shareholder. You can learn more about this at Emma Approved/Patreon.
In the meantime, you can watch the first episode entitled “Emma Approved Revival – Episode 1 – I Am Back” at the link below:
New episodes of Emma Approved will air on Mondays and Thursdays.
