Picking My Top Choices for September TV
Can you believe that fall TV is only a few weeks away? It seems like summer just got started, doesn’t it, and now we’re all preparing for the onslaught of new and returning shows.
There is a lot to choose from to watch on TV next month, but I was able to narrow down that field to just a little over a dozen top viewing options for which I am most anxious to see.
Let’s take a look at those choices:
COMING BACK FOR MORE
The primetime landscape is overflowing with the returns of many, many dramas on the major and cable networks as well as the streaming services. My top choices of the season premieres of returning dramas include:
Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix on September 7
The final season of The Last Ship on September 9 on TNT at 9 PM
The Gifted at 8 PM on FOX on September 25
This Is Us on NBC on September 25 at 9 PM
Poldark on September 30 at 9 PM on PBS
UNTIL NEXT TIME
While many shows are returning for new seasons or getting underway for the first time, there are some summer shows that are coming to a close. The two finales that I am most anxious to see are:
Take Two on September 13 on ABC at 10 PM
Killjoys on September 21 on Syfy at 10 PM
SAYING GOODBYE TO SUMMER
The Hallmark Channel is THE destination for seasonal-themed made-for-TV movies throughout the entire year, and the latest movies to say goodbye to summer include:
Wedding of Dreams on September 8 at 9 PM, finding Debbie Gibson, Robert Gant and Pascale Hutton reprising their roles from 2016’s Summer of Dreams.
Love In Design on September 16 at 9 PM, starring Danica McKeller and Andrew Walker.
Truly, Madly, Sweetly on September 22 at 9 PM, starring Nikki DeLoach and Dylan Neal.
All of My Heart: The Wedding on September 29 at 9 PM, finding Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott back for the next installment of the popular franchise.
WELCOME TO PRIMETIME
There are a number of new dramas set to debut this fall all over the primetime line-up. The top two dramas I am most anxious to see are:
Manifest on NBC, which debuts at 10 PM on September 24.
The drama focuses on what happens when Montego Air Flight 828 lands safely after a turbulent but routine flight. However, in the span of those few hours, the world has aged five years and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, gave hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible.
My main reason for watching the show is because after watching the trailer it reminded me a little bit of the start of Lost and the fact that Once Upon a Time hunk Josh Dallas is one of the leads.
A Million Little Things on ABC, which debuts on September 26 at 10 PM.
This tear-jerker will focus on a group of friends from Boston who bonded under unexpected circumstances. Some have achieved success, others are struggling in their careers and relationships, but all of them feel stuck in life. After one of them dies unexpectedly, it’s just the wake-up call the others need to finally start living.
After getting to see the pilot earlier in the summer, I knew this was ABC’s answer to the juggernaut that has become This Is Us on NBC, and hopefully viewers will see it that way too. It also doesn’t hurt that David Giuntoli from Grimm, James Roday from Psych and Grace Park from Battlestar Galactica are among the ensemble cast.
