THE X-FILES: What we Loved & Hated about Nothing Lasts Forever
X-Files 11.7 Nothing Lasts Forever
This season’s episodes have been reasonably low on the gore factor, so this the writers seemed determined to make up for it with buckets of blood courtesy of a youth-seeking, organ-smoothy eating cult of cannibals. We also revisited a popular X-Files theme – faith – and further explored the Mulder-Scully relationship. This episode was really uneven – the sister’s religious-themed pursuit of the cult members just was weird and fell flat but there were some cool scenes and the cult was creative, if horribly gory.
What we loved:
- Mulder going all religious nut job on the young local agents to get them to back off at the crime scene
- Mulder coming to grips with getting older (he reminded me so much of my father!) contrasted with the cult leaders doing horrible things to stay young
- Focus on Scully’s faith and Mulder’s lack of it as it has been so important to their approach over the years
- I’m always up for a cannibal plotline and only on The X-files do people kill and eat a friend while giving an impromptu concert complete with a cordless mic
- Mulder and Scully’s conversation in the church about their relationship
What we hated:
- One of more gruesome episodes ever
- The sister/religious plotline just didn’t gel at all
- Poor Scully got tossed down the dumbwaiter into the garbage – why not Mulder?
Watch the season 11 finale of The X-files on Wednesday, March 21st at 8/7c on FOX!
