Riverdale: The Hills Have Eyes

Well, we all knew the kiss was going to come out eventually, and it’s very Cheryl to cruelly drop a bombshell with no concern for the fallout, just because she was left out. I love to hate (but low-key love) that girl. She’s got super villain smarts and the conscience to go with them.

Fortunately, at first it didn’t seem to cause the damage Cheryl expected. Distinctive bedroom noises seemed like they’re going to be a much bigger source of awkwardness during the weekend (welcome back, Bad Betty).

Jughead’s mapping of the relationships between the 4 people dropped some serious foreshadowing, so it’s no surprise when the gang started to show signs of strain. Jughead out lashed after hearing the Hiram has found a way around Jughead’s leverage by buying the trailer park, but things really come to a boil when Betty finds out that Hiram bought the Cooper’s newspaper. Fortunately(?), a home invasion by locals stops things from spiraling too far out of control.

The robbery by masked men triggered flashbacks of the black hood, and Archie went racing after the locals as they fled before security arrives. Archie caught one of the guys, but backed off and let Andre take over. Archie was startled when he heard a gunshot in the woods, but Hiram’s heart-to-heart later shows us that Archie’s inner vigilante may be waking up.

Back in Riverdale, Josie told Kevin about the relationship between their parents and the fallout is ugly. However, later in the coincidence of all coincidences, it appears as if every single person in Riverdale decided to go to the movies and mope, and Josie apologizes when she and Kevin meet back up. After the movie Kevin and Josie bring their parents together to start a conversation about what’s next for all of them, which seems pretty wise. If nothing else, some of secrets in this town needs to be resolved eventually.

Toni called Cheryl out on masking her pain with cruelty, and the two connected when they ran into each other at the movie theater (did I mention the coincidences?). At Pop’s Cheryl broke down, comes out to Toni, and reveals that Penelope sabotaged a past love. I don’t know. It’s hard for me put aside my mistrust of Cheryl. I’m gonna wait a little bit to let down my guard with her. But, let’s hope this brings Cheryl back into the land of the loved.

After running into Moose and Midge (coincidence!), Kevin also finds out that Moose hasn’t been completely open with Midge about the nature of the relationship between Kevin and Moose. Maybe Moose will eventually get right with his feelings, who knows? I’d like to see Kevin find someone who’s ready to go all in on love though.

Chic was lurking around the Cooper house this week and giving off a serious creeper vibe. I wish his story arc would get moving a little bit. I guess we’ll be seeing more of the Coopers soon though, as they deal with Hiram taking over the paper.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on the CW.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
