THE X-FILES: What we Loved & Hated about Rm9sbG93ZXJz
X-Files 11.7 Rm9sbG93ZXJz
After a couple of weeks off during the Olympics and a disappointing episode before, I was definitely ready for a new episode this week and we for sure got a memorable one! The episode was an on-point, if exaggerated, satire of living a life surrounded by smart “things” that is guaranteed to make you look at your Roomba a bit differently. While we can’t say we haven’t been previously warned about a technology takeover, it certainly was news to me that simple things like not tipping for poor service can be enough to push them over the edge. This episode was more than a little weird and pushed today’s technology a bit, but it was entertaining and certainly relatable, not to mention more than a little bit creepy…
What we loved:
- A self-driving Tesla Model X *and* an Elon Musk reference
- Great satire of our modern tech-filled lives
- The AI just wanted a crappy tip
- Scully and Mulder decide to spend time with each other at the end rather than their technology, but they still aren’t ready to give it up.
- Mulder telling Scully “why is your house so much nicer than mine?”
What we hated:
- I’m now afraid my smart devices are plotting to kill me while I sleep
- It’s always a bit awkward when you get one of these off-the-wall episodes and then Mulder and Scully just pretend like it was another day at work without even a “was that actually real?” discussion
