Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

Over the course of the last six months, I have paid salute to rising stars: actresses who are on the move and actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work.

As I’ve said before, landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next two actresses for which viewers should keep their eye on:

Claudia Doumit

Claudia is a Sydney native, who moved to Los Angeles at the tender age of 19 to work in the industry, started out in guest starring roles on Faking It, New Girl and Mike & Molly before landing a short recurring role on Scandal.

She followed that up with a recurring role in the CW Seed series How to Be a Vampire and then a guest star role in Supergirl. But it was her role as Jiya in the fan favorite series Timeless that put her on the map.

Claudia will next be seen in the upcoming box office film Dude, which will also star Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Alex Wolff (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles) as well as the upcoming box office comedy Where’d You Go, Bernadette, starring Cate Blanchett, Kristin Wiig and Judy Greer.

Jessica Henwick

Jessica was born in Surrey, England and was the first actress of East Asian descent to play a lead role in a British TV series, starring in the children’s show Spirit Warriors. She followed that up with roles in the BBC series North by Northhamptonshire, The Thick of It, Silk and Inspector Lewis.

In the last couple of years she has had roles in the box office franchise Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the small screen mini-series Fortitude. It was her roles in Marvel’s Iron Fist followed by the combined sequel Marvel’s The Defenders as well as her short recurring role in Game of Thrones that got her noticed, though.

She will next be seen in the box office thriller Underwater that will star Twilight alum Kristen Stewart and improv comedian T.J. Miller.

Here is to Claudia and Jessica as rising stars!
