ONE CHICAGO Women: CHICAGO P.D. “Promise” (5×03) & CHICAGO FIRE “An Even Bigger Surprise” (6×03) recap + CHICAGO MED Season 3 Details

By  |

In the ONE CHICAGO world this week, Intelligence tackle a case involving the brutal murder of an immigrant worker on CHICAGO P.D. and over on  CHICAGO FIRE , Casey and Dawson butt heads with a temp chief filling in for Boden during shift and Brett’s hometown friend Hope continues to arouse suspicion. Read on for further details of what the leading ladies in the ONE CHICAGO world dealt with this week and then scroll down to the end for details about CHICAGO MED‘s upcoming third season!

Kim Burgess: After a Latino woman is found undressed with her stomach slashed one Chicago evening, Antonio volunteers Intelligence to work the case. With Burgess and Antonio now officially partners, Burgess becomes quite involved in the case. When questioning employees at the deceased’s workplace, Burgess notices a woman continually looking at them and tries to quietly question her. At first the woman is afraid to talk but as they leave, admits that she is the deceased’s sister. Both the sister and deceased are undocumented and Burgess assures her that she won’t get into trouble, they just want to solve the case. Further investigating proves that it’s not a case of drug mules like they initially thought but rather someone is going around killing illegal immigrants, something the team realises after Burgess speaks to an older woman who reveals her niece was also brutally murdered. Later on, Antonio goes to the suspect’s home only to find him gutted the way his victims were and Burgess arrives to the scene of the crime shortly after. In a scene between Voight and Antonio, we’re lead to believe that Voight delivered his  own brand of justice, even if it isn’t explicitly confirmed.

CHICAGO P.D. — Season: 5 — Pictured: Amy Morton as Sgt. Trudy Platt — (Photo by: James Dimmock/NBC)

Trudy Platt: After my criticism that Amy Morton’s Trudy Platt is seriously underused on this show, it was nice to see her get a decent chunk of airtime and be more involved with the case this week. When Intelligence realize that the deceased of their latest case has a child and they are unaware at that point whether there are family members about to look after him, they bring him into the precinct so that they can arrange for someone to look after him. Platt takes him under her wing and there’s a sweet moment between the two when she offers him a sandwich. Later after realizing he does have family but his aunt is being deported back to Guatemala, child services come to put him in a van to take him to a group home. Platt and Antonio are with him as child services come for him, but he freaks out at seeing the van, crying that his mom was put in a van and then he never saw her again. Realizing that the child could answers to their investigation, Platt and Antonio bring him back inside the precinct and gently question him. With his help, they get the lead that they’ve been waiting for. At the end of the episode, Platt takes the child to another home herself and promises to visit. He’s a bit reluctant at first but once he meets the other children, he opens up. Platt thanks the woman taking him in and we think she may have called in a favor. Aww Platt! Although Platt doesn’t appear on this week’s FIRE, her husband Mouch does reference her, talking about how he had her check that the gang Joe Cruz’s kid brother, Leon, was running with won’t come after him if he brings Leon back to town. I loved his line: “Do you doubt my wife?” – no one doubts Platt!

Hailey Upton: Upton is the first one on the scene when the call comes in about the woman found undressed and her stomach slashed. She tells Antonio that there were no witnesses and a homeless man was the one who found the victim. Upton also joins Burgess, Antonio and Halstead at the meat factory to question the employees.

CHICAGO FIRE — “An Even Bigger Surprise” Episode 603 — Pictured: (l-r) Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey, Monica Raymund as Gabriela Dawson, Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide — (Photo by: Elizabeth Morris/NBC)

Gabriela Dawson: Before this week’s FIRE, Dawson also pops up on P.D. after a Latino woman is injured. The woman will be fine but she is afraid and initially doesn’t want to speak to Burgess but comes around and Dawson helps translate. While Dawson tends to the woman, she also tells Burgess that she hears that she is now working with her brother. On FIRE, Dawson (and Casey) clashes with the Chief filling in for Boden for the morning after she and Brett make a call to take two patients in the same ambulance to Med after the second ambulance is delayed. She argues that she didn’t have time to get authorization from the chief as she was looking out for the interests of the patients and time was of the essence. This substitute chief – who word on the street is that he’s pretty prickly – retaliates but temporarily benching the paramedics so that they can fill in paperwork. Dawson is less than impressed. After Boden returns, both she and Casey are called to his office and finds the sub Chief there too, leading them to presume that they’re both in trouble. After a speech from sub Chief, it’s actually quite the opposite – Casey is being promoted to Captain. Sticking to your convictions does pay off!

Sylvie Brett: As well as getting caught up with being reprimanded by the temporary chief, Brett was also dealing with Hope. It seems like Brett has been pretty oblivious to the fact that Hope ignored her warnings about Severide and continued to hang around him, but Brett is even more thrown when Boden announces Hope as the new member of Firehouse 51, helping an overwhelmed Connie, especially since Brett was under the impression that Hope was leaving town the next day. Hope tells her that she didn’t want to put Brett in an awkward position and feel the need to put in a good word with her with Boden, but we think it’s more than that. By the end of the episode, it looks like we’re right when Connie reveals to Brett at Cruz’s surprise party that Hope stole $10,000 from her last boss. Watch your back Sylvie, we don’t trust your “friend”!

CHICAGO FIRE — “An Even Bigger Surprise” Episode 603 — Pictured: Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd — (Photo by: Elizabeth Morris/NBC)

Stella Kidd: The roomie situation between Kidd and Severide seems to be going pretty well, that is until Hope comes out of their shower at the start of the episode before Kidd and Severide have to go to work. Awkward. Sure Kidd had told Severide last episode that she was cool with him doing what he needed to do, but we bet she was not ready to see Hope there. Severide tells Kidd that he’ll just see her at work. Later on Hope shows up at the Firehouse (AGAIN) and Kidd assumes she’s looking for Severide but she covers up and says she’s looking for Brett. We see you Hope and so does Kidd. When Boden announces that Hope will now be working at the Firehouse, Kidd teases Severide in the bathroom, who had previously been bragging that Hope was heading back home so he wouldn’t have to worry about the aftermath. We saw the look on your face when Boden made the announcement Severide, lucky for you Hope has decided that she doesn’t want to mix business with pleasure and puts a stop to whatever it is that you guys are doing. Call us skeptical, but we don’t believe you, girl! Also this week, Mouch secretly brings Joe Cruz’s brother Leon to town for his surprise birthday party and Hermann, Otis and Kidd try to help Mouch hide him. Leon doesn’t hide his appreciation of Kidd the first time he meets her and we think even Kidd was amused by this.
