My Top 10 Choices for June TV
Now that the 2016-2017 TV season is nearly at an end (Can you believe that the TV season on the major networks is nearly over?!), it’s time for the cable networks to take over, providing viewers with plenty of interesting programming options.
Among all those choices, here are my top 10 for next month:
SUMMER OF SCI-FI
Freeform will air the summer premiere of Shadowhunters and the season premiere of Stitchers on June 5 at 8 and 9 PM respectively.
The Syfy series Dark Matter will air its two-hour season premiere on June 9 at 8 PM before moving to its regular 9 PM timeslot with Killjoys joining the Friday night line-up on June 30 at 8 PM.
And, the season premiere of the final season of Orphan Black will air on BBC America on June 10 at 10 PM.
JUNE WEDDINGS
As is tradition for the family-friendly network – Hallmark Channel – they will be airing four brand new wedding-themed movies throughout the month.
They are as follows:
On June 3 at 9 PM – Destination Wedding will star Alexa PenaVega (Nashville and the Spy Kids franchise) will star as Ellie, who has been painstakingly planning her sister Mandy’s destination wedding for the longest time. She is excited as guests begin arriving at the idyllic beach resort, but is somewhat nonplussed when one of them turns out to be her ex-boyfriend Greg (Jeremy Guilbaut from When Calls the Heart), who is the groom’s best man. When Mandy (Andrea Brooks from Supergirl) and her fiancé don’t show up, Ellie and Greg must lie to the guests and assure them everything is okay when it clearly isn’t. With the wedding fast approaching and Mandy’s attendance a question mark, Ellie and Greg scramble to stave off disaster while simultaneously falling back in love with each other.
On June 10 at 9 PM – The Perfect Bride is about fitness instructor Molly Winters (Pascale Hutton from When Calls the Heart and Sanctuary), who runs the very popular Bridal Boot Camp, helping prospective brides-to-be get in shape, mind, body and soul, for their big day. But things get complicated when she meets Nick (Kavan Smith, her on-screen husband on When Calls the Heart), the fiancé of one of her new “recruits,” and sparks fly. As Molly’s feelings for Nick grow, she finds herself trying to help someone else get ready to marry the man she is falling in love with.
On June 17 at 9 PM – The Wedding March 2: Resorting to Love is the follow-up to last year’s The Wedding March, where former college sweethearts Olivia (Josie Bissett from the original Melrose Place) and Mick (Jack Wagner from When Calls the Heart) unexpectedly reunited, the two become partners in running a wedding resort. As they work side by side in this new venture, they learn that although their business relationship is flawed and not working there just may be romance in their future.
On June 24 at 9 PM – My Favorite Wedding will star Maggie Lawson (Psych) as potential Northwestern fellow Tess Harper, who lasers through her best friend’s wedding planning like the star doctor she hopes to soon become. In fact, Tess puzzles through any problem – provided it’s not her own. When she meets divorce lawyer and groom’s best friend, Michael, Tess maneuvers around him like a gurney in the emergency room until she discovers this best man has a few moves of his own. Paul Greene (When Calls the Heart) will also star.
DATING DRAMA
The new drama Date My Dad will debut on the UP Channel on June 2 at 9 PM. This family dramedy tells the story of a single dad Ricky Parker (Barry Watson from 7th Heaven), who is raising his three daughters alone. Three years after losing their mother, the daughters make it their mission to get their dad back in the game: the dating game, that is. The cast includes Cindy Busby (Cedar Cove and the Hallmark Channel movie Unleashing Mr. Darcy), Willie Aames (Eight is Enough), Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale) and legendary actress Raquel Welch.
Be on the look-out for the June TV calendar, which will be posted this weekend.
