CONVICTION: Taking One For the Team {Recap}

By  |

Conviction raised questions tonight about how and when the people surrounding the CIU will go to solve a case, for good or bad.

The actual case of the week is trying to determine who kidnapped a high school girl, who was then held captive for ten years. The original convicted person was her former high school teacher who had a history of praying on young girls, but in the end, it was a waitress at the restaurant where the teacher and student met who kidnapped her.

That’s not the part of the episode that focused on who took the fall and why, however. Sam (Shawn Ashmore) was the original DA on the case who doggedly went after the school teacher. By the end of the episode, he’s forced to admit that he was wrong about the teacher and still managed to figure out that the waitress was involved.

However, Sam wasn’t the only one who wanted to take one for the team when it came to falling on a sword. Connor’s (Eddie Cahill) case with the US District Attorney hinges on whether or not Connor gave Hayes (Hayley Atwell) evidence that was used to help her win a case. Connor wants to say he did, when Hayes wants to admit that she stole the evidence.

What Hayes tells the AUSA is that a lower attorney in Connor’s office mailed her the information anonymously, and oh hey, that guy died recently too. No one but Hayes can tell this AUSA what happened and now everybody wins.

Except Hayes, actually. Her father – then – and mother – now – were finding ways for Connor to take the plea and keep Hayes save.

After all of this family struggle (and all of it without meeting the infamous President), I get Hayes’ issues so much more.

Where will those issues take her next with her mother’s election so close? Only time will tell.

Conviction airs Mondays at 10PM/9PM Central on ABC.
