Christmas Gift List 2016
Since joining the staff of NiceGirlsTV back in the summer of 2009, I have enjoyed creating a Christmas wish list of either gifts for which I would have loved to receive over the years or gift ideas for our readers to purchase for their loved ones.
This year I thought it would be interesting to take a look at just a handful of the holiday movies that have aired on the Hallmark Channel and its sister network Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, starring actors or actresses who have appeared or currently appear in sci-fi, supernatural and/or fantasy-based series.
It just might surprise viewers how many actors and actresses have appeared in both formats. In fact, next month Mynda and I will have a more in-depth list to share with our readers, but for now here are just some of the gift ideas from both formats.
1. Luke Macfarlane – Luke has appeared in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film The Memory Book as well as the Hallmark Channel movies Christmas Land and the recent aired The Mistletoe Promise. On the opposite spectrum, Luke is one of the three leads in the Syfy series Killjoys that is going into its third season.
The Memory Book can be purchased on DVD at stores like Target, Best Buy and Walmart as well as online at eBay and Amazon.
The first season of Killjoys can be purchased online at Overstock.com and eBay as well as at stores like Target.
NOTE: Meghan Ory also appeared alongside Luke in The Memory Book, and she was a series regular during the second season on Once Upon a Time. That second season can be purchased at stores such as Target, Walmart and Best Buy.
2. Lucas Bryant – Lucas has appeared in the 2016 Hallmark Channel movies Tulips in Spring and the recently aired Summer of Love. He also appeared in the long-running Syfy series Haven that came to an end in December of 2015.
Unfortunately, official releases of either Hallmark Channel movie have yet to be made, but shoppers can purchase the complete series (all 5 seasons) of Haven on DVD online at Amazon.
3. Sarah Carter – Sarah starred in the 2014 holiday movie One Starry Christmas, but was also one of the main cast in the post-apocalyptic series Falling Skies, which ran for five seasons on TNT.
While the Hallmark Channel flick is not currently available on DVD, the entire series of Falling Skies (all 5 seasons) can be purchased in a box set at Walmart.
4. Erica Durance – The Smallville alum, who appeared in the show from the start of the fourth season through the series finale in season 10, also starred in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries made-for-TV movie Wedding Planner Mystery.
Shoppers can purchase the complete series (all 10 seasons of Smallville) through Amazon or purchase each individual season at stores like Walmart, Target or Best Buy. The Wedding Planner Mystery movie can be purchased on DVD at Amazon.
5. Brandon Routh – Brandon first appeared in Arrow as Ray Palmer during the show’s third season; and since then he has appeared in 20 episodes of Arrow, several episodes of The Flash and is now a series regular on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He also appeared in the 2014 holiday themed movie The Nine Lives of Christmas on the Hallmark Channel.
The Nine Lives of Christmas movie is available on DVD at stores likes Walmart and Best Buy while the debut season of Legends of Tomorrow is available on DVD at stores like Barnes & Noble and Target.
6. Jason Dohring – Jason starred in the 2015 Hallmark Channel movie Portrait of Love, and he also starred in the short-lived CBS vampire drama Moonlight, which aired during the 2007-2008 TV season.
His Hallmark movie isn’t officially available on DVD, but fans can get the complete first season of Moonlight on DVD at stores like Best Buy and Barnes & Noble or online at eBay.
Again, please be on the look-out for an article from Mynda and I next month that goes more in-depth on the actors and actresses who have appeared Hallmark made-for-TV movies as well as sci-fi, fantasy and/or supernatural TV shows.
