CONVICTION: It’s a Different World {Recap}

Conviction teased us yet again with a slightly different case this week.

Actually, the case is much the same: poor man convicted of murder of wealthy woman who had taken him in and given opportunities. Only the twist at the end sets this one apart: in fact, the client, Will Jarrett (Grayson DeJesus), also worked with the victim’s son to kill the mother.

What the episode highlighted, though, in looking through Will’s case is the divide between the haves and the have-nots. Will was given every opportunity to see a better life (the other life) and even to fall in love with the Porter’s son. Though all of that seems idyllic, and the boys fall for each other, it still isn’t enough for them both to have the acceptance of the Porters and what they had planned for their son.

The difference between the haves and have-nots is also at play with Hayes’ (Hayley Atwell) rise to the head of CIU. Conner Wallace (Eddie Cahill) now has to be subjected to an FBI investigation into her hiring, and he still won’t forgive Hayes for her tone and candor.

Jackson (Daniel Franzese) is equally mad, but he eventually caves to Hayes’ constant calls to ask forgiveness.

Despite these two different reactions to Hayes’ interview, there is still the idea of Hayes having special treatment and how that can color all of the ways in which people respond to her.

Frankie (Manny Montana) has a case he thinks Hayes might look into: one for his cellmate from jail. Is she now truly the voice of the have-nots who can release them from jail if wrongly convicted or is she the have who can get away with anything because of who her parents are and what they did?
