Who Is The Best TV President?

By  |

With the current political climate at an all-time high given the divisiveness among all of the parties – not just Republican and Democrat – and given the fact that for many Americans the choice for our next President is not a good choice at all (no matter which side you’re on), now seemed like the right time to talk about some of the best TV Presidents. Especially given the fact that some of those Presidents would be a much better option than the two, current candidates.

Let’s take a look at just some of the best TV Presidents (they follow in no particular order). Any of whom would be a better Commander-in-Chief than the choices we have right now (but that’s just my biased opinion):

Tom Kirkman (Designated Survivor) – He may have become the President of the United States due to a horrible attack on the nation’s Capital that, quite literally, wiped out POTUS and every other high-ranking official within the government; but he is handling the job as well as can be expected. He isn’t power-hungry, he is objective in his decisions and looks for the best in all those around him. That’s the kind of President I would want in charge of the country.

Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica) – Much like Tom Kirkman, Laura Roslin started out at the bottom, as Secretary of Education of the Twelve Colonies (in that universe), but after the disastrous attack by the Cylons, she ended up as Commander-in-Chief of the remnants of the Twelve Colonies. She didn’t have an easy job, that’s for sure, and had to fight a lot of uphill battles (including her fight with cancer), but she’d be the only female President for which I would ever vote for.

Josiah “Jed” Bartlett (The West Wing) – If you look at any list of favorite TV Presidents, Jed Bartlett always seems to be at the top of those lists. He may have been a fictionalized POTUS, but he seemed to be favored by viewers on both sides of the aisle and everyone in between. He was a man of integrity, fierce intellect and stoicism with a quick witticism. He would be the only Democrat I would have ever voted for as President.

Fitzgerald Grant (Scandal) – Politics aside and let’s face it, in the world of Scandal, politics take a backseat to the intrigue and sex that is heavily-layered throughout this primetime soap that passes itself off as a political thriller (and I don’t mean that as a slight toward the show just my observation). Fitzgerald Grant is the one POTUS that anyone would want to see in their bed rather than in the Oval Office (again not a slight, but do you disagree?).

David Palmer (24) – Much like Jed Bartlett, David Palmer became a favored TV President because he was seen as a good leader, who had to make very difficult decisions against a counting clock. A counting clock that was nearly always foreshadowing potential world disasters that were diverted at the last minute by the ever-resilient Jack Bauer. After Jed Bartlett, he would probably be the only other Democrat I would want to see hold the office.

Those are my choices for just some of the top TV Presidents, but what I would like to know is who would be on your list? Please share your choices in our comments section below.
