Good Witch Recap: “A Perfect Match, Part 1”

By  |

Last night’s episode of Good Witch was part 1 of the show’s second season finale, focusing on – what else? – who is a perfect match whether it is as a couple, in work or in play.

First of all, viewers, once again, got to see Sam and Cassie spending time together after taking a hike around the Lake House that Sam bought; and we finally got to see what we’ve been waiting to see for two seasons: Sam finally kissed Cassie – really kissed her! And, she didn’t seem to mind at all. [Most viewers could say they are a perfect match, but Cassie still seemed to have reservations.]

Elsewhere, Middleton was gearing up for the annual Lights Festival – that is the highlight of the year (and also a big money maker for the whole town). But there was one “small” problem: the lady who normally organized the big event had to leave town because of an ill family member, leaving Mayor Martha Tinsdale with quite a quandary. She needed someone to oversee all of the pre-festival arrangements.

Enter – of all people – Abigail, Cassie’s cousin. [Dun, dun, dun…]

As you can expect much of the episode focused on Abigail claiming to be super busy, but seeming to do nothing at all for the festival. And that concern seemed to be confirmed when, in one of the last scenes, Martha is inundated with phone calls from vendors who have heard nothing from Abigail and have come to believe that the Festival is cancelled. This could easily become a disaster for the whole town!

It would definitely seem that Abigail is NOT the perfect match for the Lights Festival (to say the least).

Then there is Tara who has been trying to find “her thing” since she decided to drop out of grad school. First, she told Brandon that she wished she could talk to her mother (who abandoned her as a baby, I might add) in order to gauge whether she will be a good mother or not. And then she goes to Cassie for advice; only to end up getting a job with Cassie at Bell, Book and Candle. Maybe Tara has finally found her niche or her perfect match?

And then there was Nick and Grace. Nick has finally gotten permission from his dad to go to London for a semester aboard; but now that he can go, he seemed to be hesitant about going. Grace has been trying to push new girl Katie on Nick because she lived in London, hoping she could help Nick make his decision on whether he would go or not. But, it seemed that Nick thought there was more to Grace’s motives than that.

But Nick and Grace are going to have an even bigger issue to deal with: the fact that their parents are becoming romantically involved. In the final scene, Grace caught them kissing before they could have their “let’s sit down and tell the kids” moment. While the viewers may think that Sam and Cassie are a perfect match, will Nick and Grace agree? [Let’s not forget that John, Cassie’s archeological college friend, asked her to go to the Maldives with him on his funded dig; and he has been persistent on getting an answer.]

What did you think of this penultimate episode? Do you agree that Sam and Cassie are a perfect match? What do you think Abigail is really doing for the Lights Festival? How much of a disaster do you think the Festival will be because of her lack of planning? Do you think that Tara has finally found “her thing” by working at Cassie’s shop? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.

Part two of the season finale of the second season of Good Witch will air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, June 19 at 9/8c.
