Advanced Preview: Major Crimes (Season 5 Premiere)

By  |

On Monday, June 13 the TNT police procedural Major Crimes will return (at a new time) for its fifth season; and the season premiere opens with the case of Amanda Pond, a 16-year old girl who went missing after volunteering with a charity organization that feeds the homeless.

At first the Major Crimes Unit believe that Amanda might have been harmed by one of the homeless; but when they learn that she has had ongoing issues with her (at least to her teenage mind) controlling parents, that perhaps she has once again run away from home with her older boyfriend. A boyfriend that neither of her parents like.

If only the case were that simple, though. Without spoiling the episode, there is much more to this missing person case, including a look inside the darker side of the foster care system, and a very sad outcome for the parents of the missing girl.

In other storylines:

• Buzz decided to work on a cold case that is 30-years-old; a case that hits very close to home for him: the murders of his father and uncle;

• Andy is thinking about selling his house and moving in with Sharon; and,

• Rusty and Gus have hit a rough patch in their relationship.

I have to admit that I did not see the twist in the missing girl case coming until it actually happened so kudos to the writers for keeping us in the dark until the fateful reveal. I don’t remember if there has ever been any discussion in the past (either on The Closer or Major Crimes) that Buzz lost his father and uncle to murder so I am curious to see how this story plays out. And, to be honest, I could do without any delving into the relationships of the characters, as I have always been more intrigued by the cases.

Make sure to check out the season premiere of the fifth season of Major Crimes on TNT on Monday, June 13 at its new time 10/9c.
