Movie Review: Accidentally Engaged

By  |

Accidentally Engaged is the new movie from Mar Vista Entertainment, available on digital HD and on-demand as of today (June 7), features Pretty Little Liars and 2013 Dancing With the Stars competitor Brant Daugherty in the lead role alongside actress Lexi Giovagnoli (from the made-for-TV movie A Dogwalker’s Christmas Tale).

Accidentally Engaged

When aspiring actress Clarissa Byers (Giovagnoli) lands a role opposite rising star Chas Hunter (Daugherty) in a new romantic comedy, she is obviously thrilled. Unfortunately, due to an accident on the set, Clarissa loses her job right before she is to return home to South Carolina for the bridal shower of her best friend Maya (Lexi Atkins).

Right before she departs Hollywood for her hometown of Conway, though, photos leak online of Chas with a mystery woman, who looks like Clarissa – well at least the woman in the picture has the same hair as Clarissa.

When pressured by her hometown friends, including fellow bridesmaids Kelly (Arianna Guerra) and Veronica (Nthenya Ndunda) about the pictures (and as a way to cover up the fact she was fired from the film), Clarissa leads them to believe that she is the mystery woman. They are, of course, thrilled about her secret relationship and begin posting all about their friend dating such a big star.

Overnight Clarissa’s life changes. The paparazzi and reporters follow her at the airport upon her return to Hollywood and they are stationed outside the coffee shop where she was been working while trying to break into the business.

The news also reaches Chas Hunter, who barely remembers her from that day on set; but in an effort to hide the fact he is dating his married publicist Suzie (Meredith May) – the real mystery woman in the leaked photos – they devise a plan that Chas and Clarissa will stage a very public break-up.

That ruse, of course, doesn’t go quite as planned when Chas is inadvertently caught kneeling before Clarissa inside the coffee shop where all of the customers – and the paparazzi – believe he has proposed; and rather than attempt to tell the truth, Chas and Clarissa decide to play out the scene.

In fact, they continue the ruse at Clarissa’s friend’s wedding where fake feelings begin to feel real until Suzie – who just couldn’t stay away from her secret boyfriend – breaks the news to Clarissa and all of her friends at the wedding that she and Chas had a plan all their own.

Will Suzie and Chas remain a couple? What about the feelings that Chas and Clarissa started having for each other? Will Clarissa’s career rise because of this pretend relationship with Chas?  You can learn what happens in Accidentally Engaged via digital HD and on-demand and learn more about Mar Vista Entertainment here.

The cast of this film includes Randy Wayne (The Lying Game) as Clarissa’s friend Graham, Ashley Fink (Glee) as Clarissa’s coffee shop boss Melody, Maureen McCormick (The Brady Bunch) as Clarissa’s agent Jeannette and model-turned-actress Joan Severance (See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Bird on a Wire) as Clarissa’s mother Sandy.
