BLINDSPOT: “If I Love a Rebel, Death Will Render” {Roundtable}
We’re just one episode away from the Blindspot finale, and well, there’s only so much to say.
After being released from jail, Mayfair chooses to investigate her case of triple homicide while the rest of the team looks into a baby found with a tattoo just like Jane’s. Both cases intersect with some deadly consequences.
Let’s go for the big one first, what did you think of the deaths of the episode? More specifically, what do you think they both mean as the show goes forward for a second season?
Roz: I think both of them leave the show plenty of room to explore what this season was about while also expanding both mysteries into something longer and more devious. Seeing what Mayfair thought of Jane at the end was hard, but I think Mayfair has a good point: what will Weller think when he finds out that Jane basically framed his boss? What about everyone else?
As for the other Weller, I think that the program that we uncovered today has been around far longer than just those newborns and that’s perhaps what’s really going on with Jane. I doubt we’ll have that answered next week, but I look forward to an exploration later.
Leah: I understand why, if they were actually outing Mayfair, they would have to kill her – what would she do in the show going forward if she wasn’t an agent. It was still hard to watch and I’m not sure I understand the ultimate plan. You throw Jane into their team, have no memory of who you were or what is going on and then you use her to set up the person that took you in? Makes no sense to me.
I feel bad for Weller. He got Taylor back, or so he thought, he got his Dad back after all those years and then to get hit with a deathbed confession. Not good.
Lisa: I agree with Leah. I felt so bad for Weller. Just when he thought he got everything back, it’s was gone just like that.
And Mayfair. Wow! That was a tough scene to watch. I hated that Jane didn’t get the chance to tell her side of the story, but on the other hand I really felt for Mayfair. In your last moments feeling betrayed by someone you trusted. It was rough.
Reade and Zapata were finally back as a team doing what they do best. Do you now appreciate that they were working a cross purposes for the same goal all season now that we know most of the truth behind Oscar and Taylor?
Roz: Now that they know what the other had been doing, I’m happy that they were able to be apart for some of the investigations because the team is best when it’s not filled with one idea or the other. They each have a perspective that I think is value and necessary when dealing with Kurt and Jane.
Leah: I’m so glad they got it together and shared their information. It is nice when they are friends. I’d like everyone to open up and share, but that is probably too much to ask for.
Lisa: I was so glad they told each other te truth. They are so much stronger together and with trust. They make a good team.
Are you sold on the final line of the episode as being truth or another lie?
Roz: I want it to be a lie, but I can’t see how right now. The babies having that same tattoo is too coincidental for me to not believe that Oscar knows the firm that’s been doing this work and that they made a replica of Taylor years before for some reason I can’t even imagine right now.
Leah: Seems awfully odd to use your last breath to lie. I’m lost as to what is going on though.
Lisa: I’m with Roz. I want it to be a lie, but it’s not looking good. What a twist though. I can’t imagine the cliffhanger they will give us for the season finale. I have a feeling we all will need a big glass of wine.
Blindspot airs Mondays at 10PM Eastern, 9PM Central on NBC.
