Good Witch Recap: ‘Surprise Me’

By  |

Sunday night’s episode of Good Witch found Cassie spending more time with both her old college friend John as well as her next-door neighbor Sam. While Cassie has clearly stated that she isn’t ready to move on in a relationship just yet, John (nor Sam) seem ready to accept that.

They, of course, are not pushing Cassie [that wouldn’t fit with the family-friendly feel of the show], but they are certainly trying to surprise her. John takes Cassie zip-lining (something they’ve done in their past) with the unlikely help of Cassie’s cousin Abigail while Sam takes Cassie horseback riding with a major assist from Grace.

Speaking of Grace, she not only passed her driving test [a big deal when you are sixteen, as we all know] but she is really doing well in her internship at Sam’s office even if she is – albeit not intentionally – showing up Sam’s receptionist Eve. I have to wonder how long Eve will be able to stay quiet about Grace or if she will use this as a lesson that perhaps she needs to update her skills.

Then there is Nick who quit the basketball team and his dad wanted him to find something that inspires him. It should be noted that Nick isn’t much of a “club” person, but he does find something that interests him: going to London. That, of course, doesn’t win over his dad. I have to wonder, though, if this will be an ongoing subject for the father and son to bicker over.

Meanwhile, Tara is in full-on nesting mode much to the chagrin of her husband Brandon. Every conversation they have all leads back to having a baby; and she even took away Brandon’s den (it’s a guy thing according to him) in order to visualize what the space would look like as a baby’s room. This is obviously going to be a recurring storyline for the couple, but I think that Tara needs a few more wake-up calls that they are not quite ready to expand their family.

There was also more drama between Martha and her wayward son Michael, who announced that he wanted to start his own business in order to be his own boss. He is interested in starting his own limo service in the neighboring town of Blairsville, which doesn’t go over well his mother at all. What also doesn’t go over well with Martha or her husband (for that matter) is the fact that Michael asked for a $50,000 investment from his parents.

As can be expected, Tom doesn’t approve while Martha waffled quite a bit. In the end, thankfully, Martha told Michael they weren’t going to give him the money. Step one in the process of Martha (hopefully) finally realizing that she needs to “do nothing” for Michael, which will make him (like it or not) grow up.

And, Abigail, George and Cassie all dealt with an overbearing new guest at the B&B, who tried to run out on her bill because she is broke even though she claimed that her father was picking up the tab for all the outrageous expenses she racked up. I am curious to see where that storyline will continue, if it continues.
