Good Witch Recap: ‘Out of the Past’

By  |

The characters on the Hallmark Channel fan favorite series Good Witch were surprised in last night’s new episode by visitors from their past, present and future. Okay, perhaps that is a little far-fetched, but it does make sense not only given the episode title but also by the events that took place in the episode.

As we know, Cassie was surprised last week by an old college friend perhaps boyfriend (even though she claimed from the beginning that he was not her boyfriend) John, who showed up at the doors of Bell, Book & Candle having recently moved to nearby Blairsville to work at the University.

This time around, though, it was close friend (who wanted so much more from Cassie than friendship) Ryan Elliott who is back in the charming little town of Middleton; and they have some making up to do. Ryan apologizing for the way he left time and letting Cassie know that he wants more than friendship from her and Cassie telling him that she doesn’t feel that way about him.

On the other side of town, Mayor Martha Tinsdale was surprised by the return of one of her two sons to town. Sons who, I would like to remind viewers haven’t been seen since the very first The Good Witch movie aired back in 2008. It would seem that Michael lost his job at a theme-based restaurant in California and planning to return home for good. Blast from the past indeed; but Martha will need to quickly realize that her grown son needs to grow up and she’ll have to quit pulling strings for him to further his career because he doesn’t really have (or seemingly want) one.

Then there is Dr. Sam Radford who is dealing with a “ghost” of his present who just won’t stop haunting him: his ex-wife Linda, who keeps ingratiating herself into his life in order to stay connecting to their son Nick. I get it that she wants to have a relationship with her son – and not a long-distance from New York City; but the very idea that she thinks Sam will agree to allowing her to live in the guest bedroom in his and Nick’s home; well, that’s just pushing things a little too much.

And, there is the possibilities of the future visiting young married couple Brandon and Tara. As we know, Tara thought she was pregnant last week, but it was a false alarm. Brandon was relieved that she wasn’t; but Tara now really wants to be a mother. As luck (or providence or just Cassie would have it), Sheriff Derek Sanders was babysitting his little nephew; and Tara and Brandon ended up taking over the “job” for the day. Of course, this little lesson just might be the very thing both of them needed to decide how they want to move forward.

Good Witch will air its next new episode on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, May 8 at 9/8c.
