Vikings! Floki’s not so great escape & Ragnar’s grand compassion
While Bjorn discovers his Arctic Adventure isn’t so fun after all, Floki takes his cue from Forrest and RUNS!
Ragnar knew just who to speak to regarding Floki’s escape and their exchange was beautiful. They both love the shipbuilder and are powerless to stop Floki’s decent. Ragnar showed astonishing compassion when it came to Helga and their new formed friendship is both a surprise and completely understood at the same moment.
We all felt something terrible was about to happen and no one guessed death would come to Angboda. Ragnar wasted no time in helping Helga dig her daughter’s grave. The two have bonded by their shared pain. Rollo perhaps in remembering the death of his own daughter which happened while he was away.
Meanwhile Athelwulf is sent once again on a deadly quest to save Queen Kwenthrith by his father in the hope that maybe this time his son would die. Gawd! That son is the Viking’s version of The Energizer Bunny!
Sadly Ecbert’s machinations once again fell short of the goal. Not only did Athelwulf survive, but the Queen did as well. Kwenthrith is tougher than anyone imagined! Now what?
Ebert so easily maneuvered her by delivering 32exactly what she desired all the while knowing exactly what HE WANTED. Judith received her request on a silver platter in the form of a priest who looks surprisingly like Athelstan. Careful, my dear Ecbert might get jealous!
Rollo for his part is trying very hard to impress his new French family. He was successful in impressing Count Odo with his battle strategy skills. I think it was the little whoosing sounds that sealed the deal.
The new Duke of Normandy tried a makeover in the hopes of winning his brides heart. He was rewarded by ridicule from Gisla in front of everyone present. Clearly she delights in being cruel to the Viking, so much so, it is painful to watch.
Folki is, despite the god’s best efforts, discovered and brought back to Ragnar for justice. The Viking King tried once again to give his friend a way out which was flatly denied. That refusal may well be the final nail in his coffin when Ragnar promised to make Floki suffer as much as he had over Athelstan’s death.
Observations & Questions:
• Who the hell is Count Odo’s whipping girl?
• Best scenes of the night to my mind were between Helga and Ragnar.
R: Did you free Floki Helga?
H: I don’t know I might have done it.
R: I don’t blame you. It is your duty as a wife.
H: Folki loves you.
R: He only loves himself. You know that better than anyone.
• Aslaug and Ragnar’s relationship is over.
