HEROES REBORN Roundtable Discussion: “Sundae, Bloody Sundae”
On this week’s episode of Heroes Reborn, Noah (Jack Coleman) is on the hunt for Tommy (Robbie Kay) to reveal his past to him and guide him on his destiny to stop a catastrophic event. Taylor’s (guest star Eve Harlow) discoveries about her mother, Erica Kravid (Rya Khilstedt), leads to her capture by an underground group, lead by The Haitian. Erica escalates her search for Tommy and Malina (Danika Yarosh) as the race to finalize her dangerous plans intensifies. Elsewhere, Emily (Gatlin Green) has an unexpected reunion with Joanne (Judi Shekoni). Meanwhile, Dearing leads Carlos closer to finding his kidnapped nephew and Luke (Zachary Levi) and Malina are separated in a violent encounter. Henry Zebrowkski also stars. Cle Bennett and Krista Bridges also guest star.
Liz, Rueben, Cay and Melissa share thoughts on “Sundae, Bloody Sundae”.
Discussion
Rueben: I thought the showdown in Moe’s between Luke, Joanne and Tommy was a little anti-climatic and far too predictable that Malina wouldn’t stay in the car. I was also upset that they would choose to have Joanne kill Penny Man, as he was one of the few interesting aspects of this new version.
I knew it was Matt’s voice on the loud speaker at the Evo detention place, but I still can’t understand why he would be doing all of that to his own people. I never saw his as the “bad guy”, but I guess things changed. I also felt bad for Dearing despite all that he did previously, ending his life with that gun because of whatever Matt was doing to his mind. Just a sad way to end his character.
And what was with that HUGE time jump to nearly 8,000 years in the future with Miko seemingly the only survivor on the planet. Are avatars going to be the only “things” that survive? I’m finding that I merely have the show on for background noise while I do other things lately and I was really hoping for more.
Liz: I feel like this episode was really splintered. It also feels like the show is getting lost again, just like it did before, which is when I stopped watching. I didn’t understand the time jump at the end. What are we supposed to take from that? If no one saves the world from the firestorm, what’s the point of this show? Why are we watching heroes getting picked off, brainwashed and rendered powerless? Where are the “reborn heroes”?
I didn’t really care about Carlos’s story. I really don’t see how it’s relevant to the show in general. I found it boring.
After spending so much time getting us to believe that the Wonder Twins will be the ones saving the world, it was jarring to see Tommy slip in with Erica so easily. Judging by the previews we got for next week, it looks like she totally wins him over too.
I also don’t see how Luke and Joanna’s story fits into all this. I don’t really care about them anymore except I would like to have seen Joanna put out of her misery (and ours) by Luke.
I’m not impressed with Matt Parkman as the Director. I guess he’s there to weed out the useful Emos from the non-useful ones and that’s how Erica is deciding who to save for the future? Whatever, but then what about humans? Is she intending for all humanity to be destroyed? She keeps talking about saving the human race but all we see is her choosing Evos.
Also, why are we sudden;y being introduced to this new, underground group, lead by Rene? What are they and where have they been? Only four episodes away from the finale and we’re just now meeting this group? Splintered.
I don’t know, maybe it will all make sense in the end, but I’m hoping we’re not on this ride, wasting our time.
Cay: I’m in the same situation – I basically had it on in the background while I did other things. I wish they hadn’t had Joanna kill Penny Man (would have much preferred her dying!) but otherwise, I just didn’t have a strong reaction to it and had a hard time watching it closely.
Mel: It did seem like a lot of disparate storylines this week, but we are also seeing a convergence as various Evos and baddies and Heroes come together. This was a service hour, repositioning our characters geographically and ideologically. I think (hope) this episode will make more sense in the grand scheme of the entire season.
