ONE CHICAGO Women: Chicago Fire 4×03 and Chicago P.D. 3×05 & 3×06 Recap
With a double dose of Chicago P.D. this week, there was a lot of action in the ONE CHICAGO world! From intense situations on the job, to reunions to health scares – read on to find out what’s been happening with the leading ladies of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.…
Gabriela Dawson: Dawson is still getting used to the much slower pace of the Arson unit, but does reach a breakthrough with the crackhouse fire investigation when she realises that a property developer was behind it (and other fires in the area) and not one of the neighbours like she initially thought. However, it looks like someone is sabotaging her investigation because at the end of the episode, Dawson discovers that her files are gone (my money is on that female co-worker – something seems off about her!). Right after that discovery, she also doubles over in pain. We really hope she and the baby are okay!
Sylvie Brett: As we know, Brett has gotten a bit attached to the baby from the call she and Chili responded to a few weeks ago. Now Chief Boden has noticed and calls her into his office to tell her she needs to step away. She agrees, or so it seems because next thing we know, she’s back at the hospital again where she meets Dr Charles (from Chicago Med) and he agrees to find out details about the baby who appears to have no family at the moment. Once she gets a name from him, Brett then enlists the help of Office Sean Roman (from Chicago P.D.) to help track down the baby’s father so she can let him know about his newborn son. When she does confront him, it seems like a lost cause.
All this baby drama has Brett distracted from the job, even if she won’t admit it. When she and Chili go on a call to an abandoned warehouse, the paramedic’s lack of thinking gets her and her partner into trouble. Luckily they come out of it unscathed, but it did look a bit dicey at a time! Speaking of things turning out okay, at the end of the ep, Brett goes to the hospital once again and finds the baby with his father. Hopefully this family reunion will give her some closure and she’ll finally be able to let go of the case.
Jessica ‘Chili’ Chilton: As well as the abandoned warehouse case, Chili and Brett also accompany the Firehouse 51 firefighters on a call to the same street where the crackhouse fire happened and find a man trapped under a moving pod. It is Chili’s quick thinking that saves the man’s life – if they move the pod off him, he’ll go into cardiac arrest. So the only choice is to call Chicago Med and get a trauma surgeon on the scene to amputate the victim’s leg so he will live! Chili is also pretty excited about Dawson’s pregnancy, and looks forward to planning a baby shower. Here’s hoping she’ll get the opportunity to!
Erin Lindsay: Last week we saw Lindsay and her partner, Halstead have a moment at Molly’s. This week she asks her one time lover for help with finding a new couch to help her with her refreshed lease on life. He agrees, but of course not without some innuendo and before you know it, these two are flirting and bantering like old times. In all seriousness though, once she does get her new couch, she thanks him with a kiss for being there for her and he kisses her back and next thing you know, we’re pretty sure there testing out the couch’s functionality… In the second episode, Lindsay warns Halstead that the couch was a one time thing, but between all that has happened and their crazy chemistry, we know that this warning is going to fall on deaf ears. Come the end of the episode, the pair are at Molly’s and take a huge step into their relationship by realising that everyone knows about them anyway, and so they kiss and hold hands before leaving together. Aww!
Kim Burgess: The aftermath of Burgess’s Push Test on her fiancé is put on hold when Ruzek’s unofficial undercover job goes wrong and he ends up temporarily stripped of his police powers. However without realising, he does kind of make up for it by telling her that whatever his job situation may be, it won’t change their relationship and that she is the best thing in his life. Aww. In the first episode, Burgess also supports her partner Roman, as he gets ready to donate bone marrow to a dying young boy. With Roman away, she ends up with a temporary partner in the second hour. As odd as Roman may be at times, we’re sure this temporary partner makes her appreciate Roman a lot more! (ie new guy bit of a douche.)
Trudy Platt: While she is still her sassy self, we did see a softer side to Platt during the double dose of episodes this week. After discovering that Roman is taking time off to donate bone marrow to a young boy, she kindly tells the office to take however much time he needs and not to worry about losing annual days. When the procedure gets cancelled, Platt helps Roman make the young boy’s last days a memorable one and organises for the boy to come in and be police captain of District 21 for the day. If this storyline didn’t tug at your heart strings, you are stone cold! Platt also helps out Ruzek, who is under investigation for his unofficial undercover stint. It turns out, Platt goes way back with the Deputy leading the investigation and so she “bumps” into her and they have a chat and lo and behold at the end of the ep, Ruzek is informed that that investigation is over. Yay! This episode definitely cemented Platt as the silent MVP of District 21 – so many things happening because of her pulling at strings behind the scenes.
Chicago Fire airs Tuesday at 10/9c and Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10/9c, both on NBC.
