DEFIANCE Season Premiere! Purple is the new black & Insane Castithan’s rule.

There’s a new alien in town and they are  quite lovely shade of purple and sport some impressive teeth! The newbie aliens enter the mine in search of Gulanite and discover an all together different treasure in the form of Irisa and Nolan!

Nolan and Irisa’s umbilical cord to the head was creepy! The duo were deposited on the surface but not before the Omec daughter, Kindzi nearly takes a bite out of Nolan. Thankfully Daddy Omec intervened which allowed Nolan and Irisa to gather their bearings.

Irisa, for her part, is in need of some serious therapy. Murdering New York will do that to a girl. When the duo make their way to Defiance her terrible, no good, very bad day continues with the appearance of Berlin who is still mourning the loss of Tommy.

Nolan reunites with Amanda who has been having a tough time in the absence of a Lawkeeper. The Stasis Shields are down and the town is nearly our of Gulanite. That substance is suddenly extremely popular.

The three head out to the mines and suffer a mishap with the younger Omec which forces them to enlist Doc Yewll’s aid. Doc, to her credit, was trying to leave and upon seeing the newly injured alien, felt her reasons were justified. Yewll informs us all  that the Omec’s are the reason everyone left their planet! Don’t you just hate it when trouble follows? Sometimes in life you have to make peace with the past. Unfortunately for everyone I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.

Through a series of misadventures Doc Yewll is forced to donate a pound of flesh, literally, to heal Kindzi. Payback can be a bitch and you can’t say the Indogene didn’t deserve it for her treatment of Irisa.

Once his daughter is healed Daddy Omec, T’evgin, agrees to Amanda’s offer of splitting the Gulanite 50 / 50 in honor of Kindizi’s treatment. These guys may be cannibals, but for right now, they seem more like Superheroes.

The Tarr’s  along with Raif are in search of their grandchild and kidnapped children. Just as they discover Pilar and the hostages a new threat emerges. Ram Tak aka “The Beast.” And, this ear – eating, Manifest Destiny and Johnny Cash admirer takes insane to a whole new level!

In short order The General not only manages to kill Raif along with his son and then forces Stahma to make an impossible choice. Kill Christie. Mrs. Tarr showed some incredible bravery when she did just that in an effort to save her grandson! Wowzers! Stahma will always do what she must to protect those she loves.

Poor Raif goes from the frying pan and into the fire when he manages to trade one kidnapper for another! Ram Tak has the perfect hostage in Raif and all the leverage he needs to elicit compliance from the Tarr’s in his plan to take Defiance for his own.

Observations:
• Irisa, The Amazing Goddess of the Badlands is going to be a problem. She’s got some serious PTSD.• I am so in love with the relationship between Nolan and Irisa!
• Nolan the Omec whisperer! The exchange between Kindizi was wonderful!
• Datak and Stahma may have just met their match in the form of Ram Tak
• Raif needs to stop being a victim.
• Amanda has really toughened up in the seven months Nolan was gone.
