TV Movie Preview: The Music In Me on UP Channel

Sometimes you need a little help to find your own voice

That sentiment rings true in the original made-for-TV movie The Music In Me that will debut on the UP Channel this Sunday, April 12.

Jessica Terrill (singer-actress Debbie Gibson) has made her fair share of sacrifices over the years for her family. She gave up a potential singing career to make room for her brother’s burgeoning career after their father suffered a heart attack; someone had to run the family’s hardware store in his absence.

Once he was well and back to work, though, Jessica kept her dreams “tucked away” even though her best friend from college Bonnie (Kim Roberts), who now works for a record company in Los Angeles, and her loving parents Henry (Cedric Smith) and Ellen (Marcia Bennett), pushed her to pursue her dreams.

That’s, of course, when fate steps in, giving Jessica the chance – in a round-about way – to pursue her love of music again. Her local church is in dire need of a choir director for the upcoming 100th anniversary celebration; a celebration that will not happen with the choir or the support of the local media.

At first Jessica reluctantly takes on the position, trying to whip the small but dedicated choir into shape, which is an uphill battle considering they are a bit vocally-challenged, and in spite of the less-than-enthusiast church deaconess Gloria (Gloria Reuben), Jessica starts to bring out the hidden talents in all of the choir members, including teenager Alice (newcomer Amy Forsyth).

Through this amazing experience Jessica writes a new song entitled “Promises” that gets the attention of her friend Bonnie, who puts it online; and as you can guess, it goes viral. And she even begins to develop feelings for the church’s handyman Ben (Antonio Cupo).

But when another health issue arises with Jessica’s father, the church’s Centennial celebration is all the progress she has been are put in jeopardy.

Will Jessica be able to handle all of the responsibilities placed on her shoulders? Will she be able to come through for the church choir and make the Centennial celebration a success? What will happen with that beautiful song? Will she and Ben make it as a couple?

Make sure to tune into The Music In Me on the UP Channel on Sunday, April 12 at 7/6c to find out what happens.
