Review: Hallmark Channel’s “I Do, I Do, I Do” Charms Again and Again

By  |

As we continue to countdown to Valentine’s Day with the Hallmark Channel, this Friday Autumn Reeser has a chance at a do-over on her wedding day in “I Do, I Do, I Do”. Jaclyn Palmer (Reeser) is on her way to the altar with her fiancé, Dr. Peter Lorenzo (Antonio Cupo), and she begins to relive her wedding day over and over, getting new insight into who she is and how to overcome her fears with each waking day. As Jaclyn completes her uncomfortable wedding day, she awakens the next day to live it all over again, each day she presses herself beyond her fears and self-imposed limitations, to discover who she really is and what she really wants.

Jaclyn is launched on this journey by her sister, Kate (Ali Liebert), who is her maid-of-honor and her conscience. Jaclyn’s decision to marry Peter was a sudden one; they had only known each other for about five months. Kate wants to be sure that this is really what will make her sister happy. Is she marrying Peter because he’s her one, true love or because he’s a safe choice? The seed is planted in Jaclyn’s mind and when she goes to meet Peter’s parents, that seed slowly begins to grow.

Peter’s mother waters that seed as she completely takes over every aspect of the wedding, including choosing Jaclyn’s wedding dress, worn by her when she married Peter’s father. It’s nice, but so not Jaclyn. When she complains to Peter, he pulls the ‘you don’t want to hurt her feelings’ card and Jaclyn caves.

On the morning of her wedding, Jaclyn, overwhelmed by all the preparations and suffocating under her future mother-in law’s ministering, makes a statement to the universe that changes the course of her life. “I wish I could have a do-over.” Done!

As I was watching this movie I lost track of time. I really don’t know how many do-overs Jaclyn had to live through, but during each day she changed the course of that day. She always marries Peter, but her wedding night is a disaster. Jaclyn begins to doubt whether she’s made the right decision at all. Meeting Peter’s brother, Max (Shawn Roberts), doesn’t help any, especially after an impulsive kiss he plants on her. It’s a kiss she just can’t stop thinking about.

As Jaclyn relives her wedding day over and over, she finds herself drawn more and more to Max. He begins to help her overcome her fears and get to the bottom of her decision to marry Peter, even though she doesn’t really love him. Another truth Max helps her realize. Over the course of her do-overs Max teaches Jaclyn to dance, swim, and take chances.

“I Do, I Do, I Do” is a fun little romantic romp that I completely enjoyed. Sure it’s the same idea as “Groundhog Day”, but who didn’t love seeing Bill Murray try to break the cycle of his day? Trust me, you’re going to love this movie.

This movie airs on Friday, February 6th, at 8/7c on the Hallmark Channel.
