SCORPION Recap: Casino Heist
Team Scorpion is heading to Vegas. A casino there hired them to do their thing. Agent Gallo is skeptical of them heading out on their own so soon but Walter is adamant, and well he’s super smart therefor always right. I’m pretty sure this will come back to bite him but I’ll try to act surprised when it does.
The casino puts them up in the penthouse suite. Even Sylvester is happy, that’s how clean the room is. Walter gets right to work; he is very determined to make this job go smoothly. Before long they pinpoint the problem. One of the dealers has small hands. Yep, that’s the problem. Walter calmly says it’s fine, just fire the guy and hire someone else. The guy looks less than pleased with this idea. Paige takes Walter aside to tell him he is being insensitive (again) and he brushes her off as he always does. I’m not sure how long it will take for them to listen to Paige but it’s only 3 or 4 episodes in and I’m finding it annoying that they don’t at least pretend to listen to her. What’s her point if they ignore her?
With the job over the team is about to have some fun when Walter notices some odd behavior, he barely gets the words robbery out of his mouth when a man with a mask and a gun tells everyone to get down. He actually fires into the crowd and would have hit Paige if Happy hadn’t have pushed her out of the way.
Walter talks to the police who are suspicious of the team. They were “in” the security system and then not long after there was a robbery. Since there was no footage of the robbers leaving that gives the police some idea that Walter may have planned this. Honestly? The smartest people in the world robbed a casino of some cash? Wouldn’t they have written a computer program to siphon off money from a bank or something more intellectual? As always they don’t care what I think. The cops search the penthouse and find cash that matches serial numbers stolen in the robbery. Walter is arrested.
Paige wants to call Gallo but Walter says he has a plan. His plan consists of basically insulting the judge, it doesn’t go well. If only he’d listened to Paige and called Gallo.
After that debacle the team set themselves up in a less than upscale motel to figure out how to get Walter out and figure out who framed him. Sylvester starts memorizing player stats so he can win at sports betting, Toby gathers some cash so he can do some gambling and Paige and Happy head to the police station. They talk the snotty detective into letting them see the surveillance footage from outside their hotel room. Happy notices the window in the frame is at a different angle then the one on the penthouse floor, they pull out a picture she took of Paige from earlier to prove it.
As they are leaving the police precinct Paige remembers something the casino owner’s daughter said about how they are trying to expand and are spread pretty thin financially. She thinks that gives the casino motive to pull off this job themselves and having Walter and team there was the perfect frame.
Toby and Sylvester manage to raise half of Walter’s bail before Toby loses it on a bad bet at the roulette wheel. He goes to tell Walter who is not happy. Now Walter has to spend the weekend in lock up.
The team regroups at the motel with Paige in charge. They put a plan motion, a plan that requires them to wear ear buds and zip line from the roof adjacent to The Crimson casino to The Crimson’s roof. Happy found a blind spot in the outside security feed.
While this is going on Walter happens to be in lock up with the dealer he got fired earlier. Ronnie got drunk after being fired and was arrested for public intoxication. In Vegas. You get how ridiculous that is, right? Walter is helping Ronnie figure out what career Ronnie should do now. While talking, Ronnie brings up how he loved magic, especially this show that was done at the Crimson back in the day. The magician would disappear from the stage and reappear on Las Vegas Blvd. The stage was located in what is now a storage room. The same room the robbers disappeared into.
Pulling some MacGyver like shenanigans Walter breaks out of his cell to go tell his team what he found out about the room that used to be a stage with a secret exit.
Back at the casino Happy manages to get to the casino owners office where she hacks the computer so Sylvester can read the files from the car. Only Sylvester is in a loading only zone and he is told to move his car. NOW. He doesn’t drive but he tries to move the car anyway. Poor Sylvester. Thankfully Walter comes running by and sees Sylvester, he hops in the car and drives it back to the hotel so they can pick up Paige and Happy.
Everyone but Toby makes it back to the motel room where they go over all of the information. Toby was caught by security and per the owner’s daughter’s orders he is being driven out to the desert where he can walk home to LA. The problem is the team just discovered the owners daughter is the inside man at the casino for the robbery. She is in the car with Toby and she has him at gun point.
Toby does some profiling and she, like all bad guys, opens up. She is going to take the $10 million they stole and open her own venue. One that will be better than her Dad’s. She tells Toby to text his friends to pick him up. Seconds after the team shows up the place is swarming with cops, helicopters, etc…Walter called Gallo after getting Toby’s text.
Gallo’s way of saying I told you so for taking this private job before they were ready is to make the bickering Toby and Walter walk to the bus depot, 5 miles away, while the rest of the team rides back to LA with him.
