Along Came a Nanny launched the newly-crowned Hallmark Movies and Mysteries (formerly the Hallmark Movie Channel) on Sunday, starring soap hunk Cameron Mathison (All My Children) and Chuck alum Sarah Lancaster.

The film focuses on the beautiful “safe and sound” neighborhood of Poplar Point where a rash of burglaries have plagued the upscale, gated community, causing tension and anxiety for current mayor Laurel Danielson, who is up for re-election and facing stiff odds because of these unsolved crimes that are happening in her very own backyard since she lives in that very community.

Enter Detective Mike Logan (Mathieon) who convinces his Captain – Frank Milano (Tom McBeath from Supernatural and Sanctuary) – to let him go undercover in the community to figure out who is behind these crimes. And in order for him to get close enough to the residents and their staff to get any leads is to pretend to be a nanny.

The Bannerman family – husband and wife attorneys Lizzie (Leah Cairns from Battlestar Galactica) and Kevin (Lane Edwards from Signed Sealed Delivered) – hire Mike as their new nanny, taking over for recently fired nanny Cookie (Jessica Harmon from Life As We Know It), who was not cut out to be a nanny and rumored to have skimmed off the Bannerman expense account.

Mike is quickly thrown into action in the Bannerman home, taking care of Lucas (Valin Shinyei from Mrs. Miracle) and Ava (relative newcomer Jena Skodje), forming an unlikely bond with the two kids under his charge. He also begins to develop a friendship – awkward though it may have been in the beginning – with fellow nannies Jessie White (Lancaster), Gloria Mueller (Beverley Elliott from Once Upon a Time) and Mariah Kingsley (newcomer Angela Moore).

As Mike gets acquainted with the Poplar Point neighbors and begins making a list of possible suspects, he starts to believe that neighbor Paul Warner (Roman Podhura from Fringe and Alcatrz) – who just happens to be Jessie’s employer – could be involved in the burglaries because his company is just about ready to belly-up.

In fact, he and Jessie start spending more and more time together, acting as would-be Sherlock Holmes and Watson, investigating who might be the culprit; and after the homes where both Mariah and Gloria work are hit, Mike’s job is on the line to solve this case. Things get even worse for Mike when the Bannerman home is the latest victim and Mike is pulled from the case.

Despite being replaced by ambitious Detective Rosalie Ramos (Kaaren de Zilva from The Pregnancy Pact), Mike keeps working on the case; and not that much later, he gets put back on the case because the Bannermans – both the parents and the kids – miss and want him to return.

Mike figures out that Mayor Danielson’s competitor Gil McNamara (stunt man Douglas Chapman), Paul’s employee Dean Bartons (Brendan Penny from Motive) and Dean’s step-cousin Cookie (the Bannerman’s former nanny) were behind the burglaries. McNamara needed a way to defeat Danielson in the election, Dean had a record and his step-cousin needed a way out of massive debt. And in the end, Mike gets “his man” and ends up with the girl too.

Along Came a Nanny comes from Front Street Productions and Man Road Productions with Michael M. Scott directing from a story written by Gary Goldstein.
