HEAVENLY MATCH: Samaire Armstrong & Brendon Penny Are Made for Each Other {Preview}
On Sunday, October 12, the UP Channel original movie Heavenly Match will debut on the Christian-themed network, and this made-for-TV movie fits perfectly to the message of the network.
Based on the acclaimed novel Heavens to Betsy by author Beth Pattillo, Heavenly Match stars actress Samaire Armstrong (who currently stars in the ABC drama Resurrection and is also known for her recurring role in the popular series The O.C.) as Casey Hart, a single 30-year-old reverend at a small church whose life would be perfect if it weren’t for her parishioners who keep poking into her love life.
It also doesn’t help that she starts having some rather inconvenient feelings for David Swenson (actor Brenden Penny from the ABC drama Motive), who is also a reverend and her long-time friend since seminary school.
There is also the fact that Casey is doubting that the ministry is where she should be serving, and has decided to leave the church and go to law school. She’s having a hard time telling her other best friend since seminary school, Reverend Laronda “Ronnie” Mason (actress LeToya Luckett from the shows Treme and Single Ladies), about this decision, then her church decides to make her Interim Senior Pastor due to the unexpected retirement of their much beloved reverend.
To make matters worse, Casey’s church seems to be suffering from her being the senior pastor as donations are down and the church’s board are beginning to doubt her ability, which only makes her even more uncertain about her calling.
Casey will need to shore up her confidence to admit her feelings for David and decide what direction to take with her life – be it on the “other side of the altar” or go to law school.
The cast also includes Gabrielle Rose (from the recent box office film If I Stay) and Gwynyth Walsh (Da Vinci’s Inquest).
This is a delightful, family friendly made-for-TV movie that will provide plenty of laughs and just the right amount of romance for anyone longing for the good ole romantic comedies of days’ past.
Heavenly Match will debut on UP Channel on Sunday, October 12 at 7/6c.
