MODERN FAMILY RECAP: LAS VEGAS

Viva Las Vegas! This episode was a little crazy but Vegas trips always are right? Let’s get to it!

Jay, Gloria, Phil, Claire, Cam and Mitchell are all on a trip to Vegas because Jay scored them swanky Excelsior Level hotel accommodations thanks to one of his clients.

In the hotel, Cam and Mitchell ran into Mitchell’s ex-boyfriend Langham (guest star Fred Armisen) and his fiancé for their bachelor party weekend. They gave them the itinerary but Cam and Mitchell were not interested in a bachelor party.

Phil was invited to audition for a top secret magic society in Vegas and was excited about it. He went to his audition and the leader of the society (Patton Oswalt) asked Phil to perform his trick after some small talk. He was just starting the trick and realized he was late to meet Claire (who didn’t even know because she was playing craps). He rushed back to the room thinking he was in hot water.

Cam and Mitch went to the spa for massages. Mitchell went to get his massage and Cam decided to skip out on the massage and go to Langham’s bachelor party (and told him not to tell Mitchell).

Gloria and Jay were exploring the hotel when she spotted a dog maid statue (the female version of the dog butler Jay had at home that she hated). She tried to distract him from seeing it because she knew he would want to buy it.

After his spa treatments, Mitch bumped into Claire and she taught him how to play black jack. He told her to leave once he got the hang of it because he thought she might be bad luck. Mitchell won and Langham sat down at the table. Mitch told him that he felt bad about how things ended between them. The cards that came up in his hand next happened to be his room number, and he pulled out the key to make sure and put it on the table. He then said he was going to get lucky that night and Langham thought he was being invited to Mitchell’s room.

Mitch was feeling great so when he got to the room he told the butler he wanted to order a bath from the bath services menu for him and Cam. The butler suggested the techno bath (that had special laser lights and music) and Mitch agreed!

After Gloria sent Jay away (because the dog maid was delivered to her room and she wanted to hide it in Phil’s room), he ran into the butler in the hall and ordered cigars and scotch for his client that was visiting. Jay invited his client over because he thought the Excelsior Level of the hotel was the best, until he found out about Excelsior plus. He wanted to get bumped up because he only wanted the best.

The butler went to Mitchell’s room with champagne and Mitchell told him Cam should be there any minute. The butler went to get some ice and Langham walked in. The butler thought he was Cam and said Mitchell had been waiting for him and that he ordered a bath for them. Uh oh. Langham was surprised but liked the idea.

Then the butler went to Phil and Claire’s room and saw the dog maid statue in his room. He went into the bathroom and Phil was getting ready for the bath he ordered for him and Claire. He asked the butler if Claire was mad at him. He explained that Claire was his wife and in the other room. The butler thought he was referring to the dog maid (I guess being a butler in Vegas allows you to see some weird stuff). Phil told the butler to give her a drink to loosen her up so that’s what he did.

Mitchell saw Cam in the hall and told him he had a big surprise for him. He told Cam it was a little different but it was Vegas and they should loosen up and have fun. Cam opened the bathroom door to find Langham in the tub and he closed it and said no way! Mitchell (who had no idea Langham was in the tub) tried to talk Cam into it. Once he opened the door and saw Langham there he understood why Cam didn’t want to do it. Langham on the other hand was perfectly alright with both of them joining him.

Gloria was getting ready for Jay’s client to arrive when she realized she forgot her hair products. She went to Claire’s room to borrow some wearing only a towel. Her towel got stuck in the door. The leader from the secret magic society stopped by to see Phil to see his full magic trick. Gloria hid in the closet so they wouldn’t see her.

The magic man wondered what the dog maid statue was for so Phil put it in the closet. Phil performed his magic trick and the magic man wasn’t too impressed. Phil then threw a spark and Gloria came out of the closet in the maid uniform (from the dog statue). The magic man thought it was part of the trick and loved it. Gloria did a curtsy and left. Hilarious!

Jay’s client finally arrived right before Gloria came back to her room in the maid outfit and Jay looked confused. Claire went to see Cam and Mitchell because she had a surprise for them. She opens the door and nothing was there.

The butler went in Jay’s room and said his “scotch delivery” had arrived. Then a bunch of half-naked men wearing kilts with bagpipes danced into the room. Not the scotch Jay had in mind. Claire, Cam, and Mitchell went in Jay’s room and that was the surprise Claire had for them. Woops. Wrong room! Jay muttered to himself, “Only in Vegas.”
