THE VAMPIRE DIARIES RECAP: 500 YEARS OF SOLITUDE

By  |

Welcome back TVD! They came back with a bang for the 100th episode and it didn’t disappoint! I loved seeing everyone again, Vicki, Tyler, Alaric, Jenna, Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah and even old Uncle John. All I have to say is Klaroline finally happened and it was worth the wait! Woo hoo! Grab a drink and let’s get down to the nitty gritty!

It started with a flashback scene to Bulgaria in 1490, that showed Katherine giving birth to a baby and her father took her baby away. It was sad because she asked to hold her baby and her father wouldn’t let her (I actually felt really bad for Katherine in this scene). Back to present day and Katherine was in the hospital and they were trying to revive her after a heart attack. Nadia came and Stefan told her he compelled the staff to let him take Katherine home so she would be more comfortable, but that she was dying and wouldn’t make it another day.

Damon, Matt, and Jeremy were at the mansion playing a drinking game “What’s the worst thing Katherine has done to you” (Damon was also trying to ease the pain of his breakup with Elena) and they would toast to her death, think of something worse and drink again. That’s a lot of drinking!  Elena, Caroline and Bonnie showed up and joined in too (even though it was awkward to Damon and Elena to be around each other). Matt went to the basement to get more bourbon and Nadia saw him and knocked him out cold (ok with a house full of vampires, why did they send the human to get more alcohol? It would have been safer & quicker for them to send Damon, just saying).

Stefan joined the group and told them it was wrong of them to celebrate Katherine’s death. Damon told him not to be fooled after a night of sex with her. Elena and Bonnie were surprised and Caroline remembered that she forgot to tell Elena about Stefan’s romp with Katherine and that Nadia was Katherine’s daughter.

500 Years of SolitudeNadia entered the room and asked everyone to help her save Katherine. Of course there were no volunteers, (which she figured would be the case) so she shared that they will help her if they want Matt back. She buried him somewhere on the property in the same safe Stefan was locked in (see, send the vamps to the basement people). Elena and Stefan volunteered and Nadia told them that a Traveler could teach Katherine how to live in a new body (Nadia’s body).

Jeremy, Bonnie, and Caroline went looking for Matt and while walking it slipped out the Bonnie and Jeremy had hooked up. Caroline couldn’t believe Bonnie never told her but when she found out that Elena didn’t know either she said “Scandalous sex, even better” (and she wished she was having some scandalous sex of her own).

Damon was sitting with Katherine (which really wasn’t the best idea since he wanted her dead more than anyone) and Katherine had another flashback of her life. She remembered when she found her family murdered by Klaus. The kicker was that Damon found his way into her memory. When she woke up Damon was about to smother her with a pillow. Classic Damon. Sherriff Forbes was there and stopped him. He said that every terrible thing he had ever done was tied to her and she ruined him. Sherriff Forbes told him to let it go and not allow her to have any more power over him (she also brought Katherine sedatives from the hospital so she would be comfortable).

Caroline, Bonnie and Jeremy separated to cover more ground in their search for Matt. Caroline was calling Matt’s name when he showed up. Not Matt, but Klaus (yay!)! He wanted to talk to her, but her search for Matt was more important. He kept up with her and told her that Damon told him that Katherine was on her death bed and Caroline figured he came just to gloat. He also made it known that he knew she broke up with Tyler and she told him it was because Tyler chose his hatred for Klaus over his love for her (Mmm Hmmm…Tyler’s loss is Klaus’ gain. Just wait).

Nadia took Stefan and Elena to the Traveler, Mia, who was going to help save Katherine. Nadia left the house in a hurry and they realized that their daylight rings were no longer working. A bunch of travelers who were chanting and they cornered them (this scene was really strange).

Back at the house, Katherine didn’t want to take the sedatives because she didn’t want Damon to get in her head (since she would be weak). Damon was tired of hearing her talk and injected her with one anyway. She had another flashback to Mystic Falls in 1864 when she saw Stefan for the first time. Her driver stopped to see if Stefan needed help with his carriage. Katherine wanted Damon to see how they first met and how fate brought them together (the doppelgangers that is).

In the woods, Klaus told Caroline that he would leave without gloating if she came with him. He wanted her. She didn’t want to lose her focus of finding Matt, but Klaus told her he heard Matt calling for help and he was rescued by someone he would be happy to see. Cut to Matt getting out of the safe and seeing someone that made him smile. “I’m gone not three months and look at the trouble you’re in,” Rebekah said and she smiled back at him.

Katherine was having a tough time and Damon got in her head. He made her see Jenna holding a knife and she stabbed Katherine in the stomach with it. Then Uncle John showed up and said, “Hello, fingers, goodbye fingers” and sliced her fingers off. Just when she had enough Elijah showed up and she was happy to see him. She touched his face and when reality hit that she was actually touching Damon’s face she let go. Damon told her nobody was coming to say goodbye to her because nobody cared. Ouch. Just then Nadia showed up and said she cared and snapped Damon’s neck.

Stefan and Elena were still with the travelers. Stefan joked that is was a good thing he was no longer claustrophobic. Elena put it together that Katherine helped him overcome his fears. She still wasn’t fond of Katherine but Stefan wanted her to find peace. He told Elena not to give up on Damon like she did with him. Stefan really seemed to be over Elena and I was happy to see it. The travelers took blood from them and that was all they needed and they let them go (like I said before weird).

500 Years of SolitudeNadia and Mia (the Traveler) sat at Katherine’s bedside. Nadia told Katherine all she needed to do was repeat a spell and she would be a passenger in Nadia’s body. Then Mia would say a word to bring Katherine forward. Katherine told Nadia that having her taken from her when she was born was the biggest regret of her life. She should have fought for her. She said she lived a full life and she got to know her daughter. Nadia started to cry and it was very touching. Katherine told her it was her turn to live. She said (as Damon started waking up) that she made selfish decisions her whole life and it was time for her to do the right thing. Nadia was hurt and said she wouldn’t sit there and watch her die so she left. Katherine injected herself with more sedatives.

Caroline and Klaus were still walking in the woods. He wanted a confession from her about him. He said as soon as they were done there, he was leaving and never coming back. She said, “I’m in college. I’m building a life for myself. I have plans, and a future, and things that I want, and none of those things involve you.” Caroline didn’t think he understood and if he was serious about leaving and never coming back, she’d be honest about what is was she wanted. He promised he was serious and took a step closer to her. She took a step closer to him and said, “Good.” Then they kissed Yay! They stopped for a second and he smiled at her and then BAM! They were up against the tree. He ripped her shirt down like he was unwrapping a present (well in a way I guess he was). It was super hot and way to make the 100th episode memorable! Klaroline finally happened (and I have to say I watched that scene like three times)!

Stefan sat on the bed with Katherine and told her to close her eyes and that he was there to say goodbye. He touched her face and saw her memory of when she found her family dead. She told him that Damon told her she deserved everything that happened to her and he was right because she didn’t deserve to be loved. Stefan asked her to open up her mind to him. He removed her dead family from the memory. He said it wasn’t her fault and she was just a 17-year-old girl. There was a baby cry. Katherine was crying and Stefan looked as though he was trying to hold back tears (awesome performances by Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. Bravo!). Katherine went over to the crib, saw her baby and a light shined on Katherine’s face. She finally had peace. Stefan kissed her forehead and said “Goodbye, Katherine.” Elena asked if Katherine was gone and Stefan told her not yet but she wouldn’t wake up again because of the drugs.

Damon and Stefan were outside having a drink and Stefan told Damon that he needed to fix whatever was going on with him and Elena.  Damon said he couldn’t live without her, but that she is better off without him in her life.

Caroline returned to the mansion after her roll in hay with Klaus. Matt asked Bonnie who she can see on the other side. She told him Grams, witches, and Vicki. Vicki popped up and told Bonnie to tell Matt she loved him and she watches over him. Aw Vicki! Then Tyler showed up (awkward for Caroline) and said Rebekah said he was a parting gift for Matt. Damon and Stefan joined them and they realized they drank four bottles of bourbon. Alaric appeared and said, “Would someone tell these idiots to lay off the booze?” OMG Alaric! He then said “Do you honestly think I’d leave Damon in charge and never look back?” Damon sensed Alaric was talking about him and Jeremy confirmed he was. Damon said “Cheers, buddy,” and Alaric replied “Cheers.” This was so awesome! Alaric and Damon’s bro-mance was one of my favorite relationships so it was great to see them together again even though it was brief.

Bonnie saw Katherine quickly and they thought she was dead, but Katherine had unfinished business and woke up again. Elena was at her side and told Katherine that she forgave her because she wasn’t born evil, her life made her that way. Katherine asked Elena to give her a sedative and thanked her for her forgiveness. Elena said “You’re welcome” and reached to give Katherine a shot. Katherine grabbed Elena and spoke the spell the traveler taught her so she could be a passenger. Katherine died and Elena’s eyes went black and she collapsed. Then the phone rang and Elena answered. It was the traveler and she said the rest of the spell to bring Katherine forward. Nadia took the phone and asked if it worked. She responded “Of course it worked, I’m Katherine Pierce. I survive.” WHAT??? We can’t get rid of that old bat for nothing! Katherine looked in the mirror and admired her young face. Katherine was here to stay.

OMG! What did you think of the 100th episode? Who was your favorite character to return? Were you happy about Klaroline? What do you think is going to happen to Elena? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
