Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Hannah Shakespeare
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on writer and executive producer Hannah Shakespeare.
One of Hannah’s first projects was writing the 1998 film Paperlily that starred legendary actress Fionnula Flanagan.
It was in 2005 that she wrote the screenplay for the independent film Loverboy that included among its cast Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacon, Blair Brown, Matt Dillon, Oliver Platt, Campbell Scott and Marisa Tomei. The next year she was on the writing staff for the short-lived drama Runaway that starred Mark Wahlberg, Dustin Milligan, Leslie Hope and Sara Ramos.
In 2007, Hannah worked as a story editor on both Ghost Whisperer and the short-lived Bionic Woman as well as a writer on Close to Home. It was two years later that she joined the writing staff of the short-lived series The Philanthropist, which was followed up the next year by working as a writer and co-producer on the short-lived series The Whole Truth. Also in 2010, she was the writer of the failed pilot Gimme Shelter that was to star Michael Beach.
The next year she was a producer and writer on the short-lived period drama The Playboy Club and then in 2012 she wrote, with Ben Livingston, the box office film The Raven, which starred John Cusack, Luke Evans and Alice Eve.
Most recently, Hannah is the showrunner, executive producer (alongside Ben Silverman and Sofia Vergara) and writer for the new ABC drama Killer Women that is an adaptation of the Argentine series Mujeres Asesinas. The series stars Battlestar Galactica alum Tricia Helfer as one of the first female Texas Rangers.
