GOLDEN GLOBES: Nice Girls Post-Spin Edition
One of our favorite things to do (or a few of us) is to snark along to award shows, all in good fun. Of course. Below are thoughts from Leah, Lisa and Louise (all the L’s in one post!) about the best and worst of the 71th Annual Golden Globe awards.
Most Shocking Victory
Leah: Brooklyn Nine-Nine. One of my favorite comedies but that usually means it isn’t an award winning show. *cough* Community *cough*
Lisa: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Best Comedy. I like this show but was not expecting it to win (I heard Terry Crews did the robot in the press room, I would have loved to see that).
Louise: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or maybe Elisabeth Moss. Moss just because that category has some amazing other women in it.
Least Shocking Victory
Leah: Jennifer Lawrence. She always seems genuinely shocked to win but no one else is. She is the darling of everything right now. Rightfully so.
Lisa: Breaking Bad, Best Drama for TV. They were pretty much a shoe in.
Louise: Television wise: Breaking Bad’s two wins. With regards to the movies: Jennifer Lawrence. Much as I loved her performance in American Hustle, it wasn’t my favorite performance she’s done.
Best Dressed
Leah: Lupita Nyong’o
Lisa: Lupita Nyong’o from 12 Years a Slave. She looked amazing!
Louise: Lupita Nyong’o and Elisabeth Moss, for various reasons. Firstly, a cape! Secondly, Art Deco is amazing.
Worst Dressed
Leah: Zooey Deschanel is for sure on the list and it was a long list.
Lisa: Paula Patton in her marshmallow dress or Aubrey Plaza.
Louise: Drew Barrymore, and on the male-side Taylor Kinney’s blue tux. Oof!
Best Joke
Leah: The Geoge Clooney joke was flawless.
Lisa: Opening monologue when Tina said Gravity was about how George Clooney would rather float in space than spend another day with a woman his own age. Hilarious!
Louise: I’m going to be different and say the Mr. and Miss Golden Globes joke. Just watching Amy Poehler trying to channel Justin Beiber was hilarious. Also, it would be funny if Idris Elba really was the father.
Other thoughts:
Leah: Since when is it acceptable to have rambling speeches (see Jacqueline Bisset or Diane Keaton’s one for Woody Allen) or ones that just go off onto a birdwalk (also see Keaton’s speech ending with the Girl Scouts song)?
Lisa: Jennifer Lawrence’s photobomb of Taylor Swift, the Matt Damon jokes (he’s an excellent garbage man!), Emma Thompson with her martini and shoes, and I loved that Amy Poehler finally won!
Louise: Emma Thompson is flawless and I know more than a few people hope someone picked up her expensive shoes. Emma Watson is equally flawless for her surprise pants. Of the red carpet things, Elisabeth Moss flipped off the mani-cam.
